Job title: Stewarding Staffing Manager
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week plus all home matchdays
Department: Matchday Safety & Security
Location: Elland Road
Responsible to: Safety Officer
Role Summary
The Stewarding Staffing Supervisor will oversee the operations and management of matchday stewards at Leeds FC. They will ensure that stewards are efficiently recruited, trained, deployed, and supported to provide a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for all fans attending home matches. They will also assist in ensuring compliance with relevant safety and security regulations.
Role Responsibilities
Steward Management:
Work with the Club’s People Team with the development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies to attract qualified candidates for security/stewarding positions.
Work with the Club’s People Team with the recruitment process, which may include drafting adverts, shortlisting, supporting interviews.
Oversee the deployment of stewards across various areas of the stadium (e.g., entrances, concourses, seating areas, and emergency exits).
Ensure that stewards are trained, briefed, and fully equipped to carry out their duties safely and effectively. Liaise with the club assessors on the stewarding training plans and development plans.
Provide on-the-day guidance and support to stewards during matchdays and events.
Monitor steward performance and address any issues or concerns in real-time.
Be the primary point of contact for all matchday stewarding personnel.
Safety & Security Compliance:
Ensure all stewards are aware of and follow the club’s safety protocols, emergency procedures, and crowd control measures.
Work closely with Safety Officers to maintain safety within the stadium.
Assist with the preparation of matchday safety plans and risk assessments.
Matchday Coordination:
Liaise with the Safety Officer to ensure proper stewarding coverage across all areas of the stadium, scheduling, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Conduct briefings with stewards before and after each match to ensure all incidents are reported and discussed.
Oversee staff sign-in procedures on matchdays, handle attendance administration, and generate post-match reports for analysis to enhance future operations.
Oversee the equipment and materials (uniforms, radios, first aid kits) distribution and maintenance process.
Customer Service:
Provide excellent customer service by ensuring stewards are approachable and helpful to fans, offering assistance where needed.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of stewarding duties, incidents, and any safety-related issues.
Report incidents and feedback to the Safety Officer to help improve future stewarding operations.
Training & Development:
Organise training sessions and refresher courses for stewards, ensuring their personal development and adherence to the latest safety regulations and best practices in conjunction with the club’s assessors.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
Previous experience in stewarding or security, ideally within a sports stadium or large public venue.
Must be a proven administration professional with experience of supporting the administrative function within a busy department.
Candidate must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office and computer literate.
Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage a team of stewards.
Knowledge of crowd management, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work under pressure and resolve conflicts in a calm and professional manner.
A customer-first attitude and a passion for delivering a positive matchday experience for all attendees.
