Job Description

The Platform Tech Lead manages teams in the implementation of cloud-native service architecture that software development teams can leverage to move services to use native cloud capabilities.

This role works directly with implementation teams to provide technical guidance and implementation priorities related to cloud implementation.

Reporting to the Senior Platform Engineering Manager you will work closely with teams across the group and ensure a continuous cycle of improvement and evolution, ensuring that our services consistently deliver expected outcomes and provide maximum value to the organisation

  • Oversees cloud system design activities and/or reviews system designs to ensure that solutions will exhibit expected levels of performance, security, scalability, security, maintainability, appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment.
  • Oversees the automation of cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration management, self-service, infrastructure-as-code services, auto scale initiatives, and workload deployment.
  • Coordinates teams in ensuring defined SLAs, standards, metrics, product offering, processes, and evaluation criteria are measured and met
  • Works closely with key stakeholders driving belief and mindset for cloud-native systems and educating on how to use platform capabilities effectively through appropriate venue.
  • Provides high level guidance on system architecture and recommends solutions in alignment with systems engineering best practices.
  • Contributes significantly in de-risking development activities by collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Builds and maintains a risk-aware culture, ensuring efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
  • Ensures efficient functioning of data storage and processing functions in accordance with company security policies and best practices in cloud security.
  • Identifies, analyses, and resolves infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues independently.
  • Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in cloud engineering best practices and industry standards.
  • Coaches talent, and manages others, to develop capabilities and ensure performance through upskilling, development and recruitment.
  • Implement ways to improve working processes within the area of cloud engineering responsibility.

Essential Skills:

  • Has been involved in cloud initiatives, contributed to Platform Engineering groups and helped deliver key infrastructure for core initiatives.
  • Expert working knowledge and understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and the ability to implement, and optimise cloud architectures.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration platforms, specifically Kubernetes and experience running large scale clusters at enterprise level.
  • Experience with messaged based systems such as SNS, Apache Kafka and applications that require low latency.
  • Can communicate clearly, present, evangelise, to those both technical and non-technical.
  • Experience with AWS best practices, including the well architected framework.
  • Experience with GitOps and using either ArgoCD or Flux to improve developer experience.
  • Creation of Terraform/OpenTofu modules and enabling product engineering teams to autonomously deploy applications whilst maintaining high standards.
  • Strong experience developing CI/CD pipelines in a secure and cost effective way.
  • Strong experience with monitoring tools and providing the right level of observability and monitoring for product engineering teams.
  • Demonstrate ability to be cost aware and experience on how to optimise cloud costs.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team, providing coaching and mentoring to members of the team.
  • Must be very comfortable working, communicating with, and regularly presenting to highly technical software engineers, cloud engineers, product/business leaders, as well as executive leadership. 
  • A community builder and always working within the community to find bright spots and bring that knowledge back to the larger community. 
  • Passionate about cloud, understanding problems and delivering solutions.
  • Continuous learning, understanding how that applies to the business, and communicating such out to educate and enable the technical organisation, product groups, etc.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed and timely decisions.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in written and oral English communication.
  • Seasoned communicator, proficient in technical and business/ functional aspects of the software development process.
  • Someone with extensive experience in technology at the enterprise, with familiarity with the betting and gaming industry a plus

Cloud Certifications: (Candidates with any below certifications. Not mandatory but nice to have.)

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • CKA or CKAD Certification
