FIXED-TERM CONTRACT UNTIL OCTOBER 2025

BASED IN WEBB ELLIS HOUSE, TWICKENHAM

 

We’re looking for x2 Match Managers to start in February 2025 & x3 Match Managers to start in July 2025

 

Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025 (Women’s RWC 2025) will be the 10th edition of the women's tournament.  World Rugby, in partnership with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and UK Sport, have formed a Local Operating Company to plan and deliver the event.

 

Ambitions for the tournament are at an all-time high as women’s rugby is one of the fastest growing team sports in the world. Women’s RWC 2025 will be the ultimate stage for the best players, teams and coaches from 16 nations across the globe and is set to be the biggest and most widely watched women's rugby event ever. Women’s RWC 2025 LOC is looking to appoint Match Managers within the Women’s RWC 2025 LOC, based in London in the initial stages of the role, however given the operational nature of the role travel to match venues is required The Match Managers are key members of the team that will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Rugby World Cup across Match Management and the policies and procedures for the match. Reporting into the Match Management Manager centrally and with a reporting line into the Venue Managers whilst on venue.

 

With standards of delivery needing to be at a level commensurate with the Rugby World Cup, the role is highly operational in nature in an intense and competitive environment.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • The Match Manager is ultimately accountable for co-ordinating the activities of all Functional Areas relating directly to the delivery of the matches within their allocated match venue, and implementing the competition regulations, policies and procedures in order to ensure that all requirements of the RWC2025 are met. Working closely with World Rugby’s Match Commissioner, this will include ensuring the relevant World Rugby Laws & Regulations of the game and Terms of Participation are delivered at tournament time to a consistently high standard whilst also taking into account all the requirements of health and safety procedures and key functional areas.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the matches at the venue including the Stadium Run and in the build-up to the fixture.
  • Responsible for the management of rugby operational spaces and client flows within the Match Venue for Teams and Match Officials.
  • Support the Match Management Manager on the review and production of the Match Management Daily Run Sheets, Teams Match Day Run Sheets and any other relevant documentation and policies as required.
  • Be responsible for all matters relating to the delivery of the rugby competition elements at the venue. These responsibilities will include extensive liaison with the Venue Manager, Team Managers, Team Liaison Officers and match venue staff, and other functional areas such as Broadcast, Sports Presentation, Security, Catering and Transport to ensure the implementation of the policies, plans, timelines and ensuring the provision of agreed services to Teams and Match Officials.
  • Responsible for the coordination of and act as the key contact at the venue for medical, Match Officials, anti-doping, disciplinary and integrity representatives, and management of the ball team and any other Match Management volunteers.
  • Complete daily reports during the tournament, for submission to the Match Management Manager.
  • Responsible for the RWC2025 match rugby equipment.
  • Assist in the identification of key issues, risks and in the resolving of the related problems in order to achieve the overall strategic and operational goals of the Tournament. This will include where required implementation of contingency plans, match postponements and delayed kick-off procedures.
  • Represent RWC2025 at external stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Take part in training sessions alongside World Rugby Match Commissioners in preparation for the tournament.
  • Take part in test events as required as part of the readiness programme in advance of the Tournament.
  • Assist in reporting processes post tournament to support transfer of knowledge for future tournaments

 

Experience & knowledge you’ll need:

  • A working knowledge of the international rugby environment and the Laws of the Game.
  • Proven experience and track record of success as a leader.
  • Excellent track record in large scale event management and operational delivery.
  • Experience in Rugby Match and / or Tournament delivery.
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders and proven success at building excellent working relationships at differing levels.
  • Proven communication skills and ability to create and deliver clear operations manuals and reports as required.
  • Ability to communicate well under pressure.
  • Experience working in an international sporting environment with a wide range of cultures.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple individuals across a varied portfolio of responsibilities.
