1 ROLE DETAILS

  • Position Title: High-Performance Director Fencing
  • Reports to: Senior Performance Advisor
  • Direct Reports: Coaching-specific staff (e.g. Head Coach, Assistant Coach, etc.)
  • Department: Sport Strategy & Performance
  • External Relationships: National Federations, Ministry of Sport, Coaches, Athletes, Media & Sponsors

2 ROLE PURPOSE

  • Provide outstanding leadership both internally and externally for fencing, tasked with leading, shaping and executing the future high-performance strategy. While this role is employed within the SOTC, it will function as the strategic lead for the Saudi Arabian fencing Federation.

3 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Director, Sport Strategy and Performance and the CEO of the Saudi Arabian fencing Federation, lead and manage the strategic direction, development, preparation, culture, and performance of the Saudi Arabia fencing Program aligned with its approved budgetary, administrative, and operational framework
  • Develop strong relationships and implement clear and effective stakeholder communications with key strategic and funding partners to ensure we are maximising the resources available to fencing
  • Work closely with high performance staff, to formulate and lead the overall SOTC and fencing program and daily training environments for athletes
  • Establish and assist in recruiting an appropriately experienced and well qualified, coaching staff that will support you to drive ‘World Best’ technical standards and performance direction
  • Lead a collaborative, high performance environment which elicits optimal input from coaches and staff to ensure sustainable success

4 EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum 8 years of proven experience of leading and managing a team operating in elite sport • Extensive performance knowledge and technical expertise in fencing
  • Proven international success in performance management, team management or coaching
  • A background and recent experience of leading a high performance sport team demonstrating highly developed leadership and management skills with a proven record of establishing a culture of collaboration, team working, innovation and support
  • Demonstrated experience of managing substantial high-performance budgets
  • Experience developing and setting a strategy and communicating a vision that engages and inspires people to envision future success and move towards higher levels of performance
  • Can build a high-performance culture that actively embraces wellbeing as a key plank of an environment for sustained high performance sport success

5 SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Approaches the role with energy and enthusiasm and is aligned with SOTC Values
  • Highly self-motivated with an intrinsic desire to strive for excellence in achieving elite sporting success; shows initiative and wants to exceed
  • Extensive skills in high-performance principles, sports science, coaching methodologies, and athlete development.
  • Strong leadership skills to oversee the entire high-performance program, set strategic direction, and foster a culture of excellence.
  • Aptitude for identifying challenges and devising innovative solutions across multiple domains.

6 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in sports science, psychology or related field.
  • Tertiary qualifications in high-performance coaching, management, sports science, organisational psychology or equivalent
  • Significant experience working in high performance, elite or professional sport leadership roles, with international/national experience preferable
  • A strong technical understanding of elite sport systems
