1 ROLE DETAILS

  • Position Title: Director, Athlete Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing.
  • Reports to: Senior Director, Athlete Performance Services
  • Direct Reports: Leads in Performance Lifestyle and Wellbeing and Performance Psychology
  • Department: Performance Services, Saudi Olympic Training Center
  • External Relationships: SOPC, National Feds, Government agencies, Education and employment sectors

2 ROLE PURPOSE

  • Provide strategic direction and senior leadership for the wellbeing, performance lifestyle, performance psychology support for athletes.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership of the development of effective working cultures that enable high performance alongside athlete and staff wellbeing. 

3 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of strategy for Performance Lifestyle support aligned to the needs of SOTC programmes programme engagement, family engagement, and career stage transitions.
  • Lead the development of strategy for Performance Psychology in relation to athlete performance and wellbeing.
  • Lead the development of strategy relating to development of high-performance culture within MDTs and sport programmes fostering an environment that enables high performance alongside athlete and staff wellbeing.
  • Oversee the creation, implementation and monitoring of operational policies for Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing support within, and aligned to, the SOTC.
  • Oversee and quality assure related services delivered through external contracts both within and outside of KSA.
  • Manage related staff to ensure high quality service provision, staff development and engagement with knowledge dissemination within KSA.
  • Foster effective relationships with outside stakeholders to facilitate engagement, performance and wellbeing in athletes and staff
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of relevant data and facilities to support high performance service provision.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of athlete status as it relates to Wellness & Engagement.
  • Actively contribute to the wider organisational priorities including ensuring athlete wellbeing remains a key pillar within an environment that is pursuing sustained success 

4 EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in sports performance, including 4 years of experience in leadership/management within Olympic sport institutes, professional clubs, or national teams. Other coaching or management
  • experience can be considered.
  • Experience of mixed linguistic and cultural settings
  • Experience and insights concerning the areas of performance psychology, athlete engagement and wellbeing, and organisational development
  • Experience in managing diverse stakeholder groups
  • Experience understanding individual personal styles and developing influence strategies to get results
  • In-depth knowledge of issues relating to motivation, mental health and holistic well-being
  • Understanding of the unique challenges athletes face in managing their lifestyles alongside training and competition demands
  • Knowledge and understanding of the structure and dynamics of international sports systems
  • Understanding of athlete development and performance pathways/drivers across a range of sport

5 SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Demonstrated ability to have open and honest conversations, delivering balanced feedback and critical messages whilst maintaining relationships
  • Ability to effectively leverage, combine and apply expertise from varied support services to ensure success
  • Ability to create comprehensive athlete support programs that address performance lifestyle, performance psychology, mental health, and overall well-being
  • Strong ability to collaborate with coaches, medical staff, and other professionals to ensure athletes' holistic development
  • Leadership skills to manage a team of psychology and lifestyle professionals and create a positive and supportive environment

6 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. sport psychology, clinical psychology, organisational psychology)
  • Doctoral level qualification is an advantage
  • Relevant professional certification is an advantage (e.g. BPS)
  • Certification in coaching, management, or psychology are an advantage
