1 ROLE DETAILS

    • Position Title: Head Coach - Sabre
    • Reports to: High-Performance Director
    • Direct Reports: Coaching-specific staff (e.g. Assistant Coach, etc.)
    • Department: Sport Strategy & Performance
    • External Relationships: Athletes, Coaches, Media and Sponsors

2 ROLE PURPOSE

  • Provide outstanding coaching leadership both internally and externally for Sabre, bearing the overall responsibility for planning, implementation, management and control of the training of all squad athletes and their participation/performance in (international) competitions. While this role is employed within the SOTC, it will function as the coaching lead for the Saudi Arabian Fencing Federation.

3 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Head Coach in developing a world-class training program
  • Provide ‘hands-on’ coaching to support the development of inspired and empowered athletes with the medal-winning potential
  • In collaboration develop and execute short-term training programs to improve specific skills
  • Ensure that each elite and emerging elite athlete has an individual performance and competition plan
  • Provide recommendations for athletic performance improvement plans for each athlete
  • Monitor the progress and performance of athletes on the team
  • Brief athletes on training and competition schedules, ensure that they are on-time and prepared for all scheduled activities
  • Collaborate with coaches under the umbrella of the Federation, supporting high-performance staff, the state / federal coaches and selected club coaches to ensure that coaching is aligned with best practices
  • Support the identification of the next generation of medalists in Fencing through the development of talent identification programs, attendance at development camps, and “open session” events

4 EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience of leading an elite level coaching team operating at the highest level.
  • Extensive performance knowledge and technical expertise in Fencing, specializing in Sabre
  • Experience as both a coach and a former athlete in elite sport
  • Understanding of the trends shaping the future of Fencing and sport in general
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the best practices of coaching

  • Compelling communication to effectively engage, consult, liaise and influence colleagues, athletes and key stakeholders

6 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant coaching qualification (national or recognised international accreditation)
  • Bachelor degree in sports science, psychology or related field is desirable.
