Fixed Term Contract starting September 2025 to July 2028
The Head of Stadium Safety & Security for UK & Ireland 2028 Limited will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of stadium safety and security operations for UEFA EURO 2028. Working alongside the incumbent stadium safety teams, the role holder will develop the implementation of required tournament specific changes to the stadium’s business as usual operations; planning their alignment, consistency and ultimate success across all 9 tournament venues.
Building strong relationship with venues, local stakeholders and national authorities the role holder with deliver the highest standard of safety and security is delivered at each of the host venues for UEFA EURO 2028, ensuring alignment with city activities, movement and arrival patterns of fans and fan culture are considered within the host venues.
Managing a team of onsite security managers at each venue, the role holder will be responsible to for an aligned, consistent and unified approach to safety and security in tournament stadia.
The role will work closely with the Director of Safety & Security, however it reports into the UK&I 2028 Operations department, working directly with venue management colleagues to ensure a joined up approach to venue delivery and the delivery of safety and security within them.
What will you be doing?
- Lead the stadium safety and security domain for the tournament focusing on ensuring the highest level safety and security in all match venues is provided in a consistent tournament-wide approach. Working with venues, local stakeholders and national authorities to ensure an agreed and aligned approach for the tournament, ensuring that the specifics of EURO are accounted for in the planning and delivery of the tournament.
- Develop strong relationships with venue safety & security teams, internal departments and external agencies to deliver a consistent, robust and aligned approach to safety and security across all tournament venues.
- To establish a safe and secure operating plan for each UEFA EURO 2028 host stadium, aligning tournament needs with stadiums business as usual operations to deliver a safe and secure venue for teams, fans and client groups.
- Act as a central point of contact for venue safety and security matters for the duration of the tournament planning and delivery phases, working closely with the UK&I 2028 Director of Safety & Security, UEFA Safety & Security unit and venue management colleagues.
- Together with the Safety & Security division, develop the tournament safety & security strategy/concept
- To work with national agencies to promote and increase the quality and depth of stewarding and security services available for the tournament.
- Recruit, train and manage a venue safety and security team of 10 to work in venues during the tournament, working with venues and authorities to deliver robust non-match day and match day deployment plans in line with the requirements of the tournament.
- Plan venue arrival routes and entry requirements in line with host city activities, mobility functions and UEFA ticketing.
- Implement and deliver a testing and readiness programme for each venue of EURO specific elements.
- Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet the changing priorities.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
What are we looking for?
- Proven understanding and experience of the structures and processes required in the planning and delivery of major sporting events, ideally within football
- Working knowledge of the safety and security principles for major football events
- A detailed knowledge of event safety legislation and working practices including the the Green guide and Safety of Sports Grounds Act.
- Leadership experience of successful & diverse teams
- Relevant experience in security planning and safety management including crowd management at events
- Experience working major sporting events both in the planning and delivery phases
- Proven track record of working with and managing complex stakeholder relationships
- Advanced report writing and presenting skills using Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to create presentations and present to a wide range of key stakeholders
- Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety Management
- Experience working closely with or for blue light services
- Strong existing relationships with key partners delivering the UK&I 2028 safety and security concept ideally including blue light services, venues and UEFA
- Experience of football fans trends and behaviour profiles
- Experience in the major sports events world in a crowd management or security planning function
