Full Description

Fanatics Collectibles is launching its China business and is seeking a pioneering Director of eCommerce to build and lead our eCommerce business from the ground up. This role demands a visionary and execution-oriented leader with a deep understanding of both commercial eCommerce strategy and the operational systems that enable scale in China’s dynamic digital landscape.

This position is responsible for driving online sales growth across direct-to-consumer and third-party channels, establishing robust eCommerce infrastructure, and ensuring seamless integration of operations, fulfillment, payments, and compliance systems. The ideal candidate brings experience launching and scaling eCommerce platforms in China and understands the regulatory complexities that govern payments, consumer protection, and data use in this market.

Key Responsibilities

eCommerce Strategy & Commercial Ownership:

  • Define and execute the full-stack eCommerce strategy for Fanatics Collectibles China across direct-to-consumer (e.g., owned Shopify or web platforms) and third-party ecosystems (e.g., Tmall, JD, WeChat Stores).
  • Build launch plans and revenue roadmaps for new product drops, card releases, collector boxes, and marketplace-exclusive merchandise.
  • Develop strategies for assortment planning, promotional cadence, price testing, and cross-border opportunities aligned with global brand and regional business goals.

Platform & Payment Infrastructure:

  • Partner with engineering, finance, and legal teams to implement secure and compliant payment systems tailored for the Chinese market, including WeChat Pay, Alipay, UnionPay, and platform-native gateways.
  • Lead end-to-end operational design including checkout flows, fraud prevention, tax handling, refunds/appeasements, and invoice generation that meets Chinese legal standards.

Third-party Marketplace Development:

  • Launch and manage storefronts on key Chinese platforms including Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, and niche collector platforms.
  • Own commercial relationships with these platforms, including contracting, promotion planning, and inventory synchronization.
  • Monitor platform algorithms, traffic trends, and ranking performance to optimize search, conversion, and sales velocity.

Operational Excellence & Customer Journey:

  • Build foundational eCommerce ops: product setup, digital shelf, order management, logistics coordination, and post-purchase service.
  • Collaborate with local and global Customer Experience and Logistics teams to ensure SLAs, satisfaction scores, and fulfillment metrics are consistently achieved.

Analytics & Optimization:

  • Define KPIs and reporting cadences to monitor site performance, customer behavior, and campaign effectiveness across channels.
  • Apply a test-and-learn culture through A/B testing, CRO strategies, and iterative platform improvements.
  • Continuously refine merchandising, creative, and UX elements for optimal performance in the Chinese digital ecosystem.

Regulatory & Compliance Leadership:

  • Ensure all eCommerce and payments activity complies with Chinese laws and platform regulations, including:
    • PIPL (Personal Information Protection Law)
    • E-Commerce Law
    • Platform-specific consumer protections
  • Oversee cross-border regulatory implications where applicable and stay abreast of policy shifts impacting eCommerce or collectibles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, eCommerce, Digital Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of eCommerce experience with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role within China.
  • Proven track record in launching and scaling eCommerce operations in China, including platform setup, payments, and compliance.
  • Strong commercial instinct paired with operational fluency—comfortable toggling between GTM planning and process architecture.
  • Experience with local digital ecosystems (e.g., Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance), China-specific user behaviors, and fan/collector communities.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English is required.
  • Familiarity or passion for sports, collectibles, trading cards, or pop culture a plus.

The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Subject to applicable laws, Fanatics Collectibles may choose to run a background check.
