In short
As a senior data engineer you’ll drive the design of data models, build data pipelines, automate builds and deployments using CI/CD, decipher APIs, while leveraging SQL to provide clean, tested, documented and well-defined data.
You will act as an enabler for other data engineers and data analysts by providing guidance on architectural and design decisions, supporting the tech teams responsible for product master data’s modeling efforts while evangelizing and encouraging our best practices and governance policies.
Lastly you will act as a point of contact for one or more business teams and collaborate with the stakeholders within that team/function to create relevant data products to enhance the data quality of the product master data and its adoption at On.
Your Mission
As On is growing, so are our data needs. Here, you'll play an important role in shaping the data roadmap while optimizing existing and new data products. You will collaborate closely with fellow data engineers as well as data analysts in the functions to develop our Data Products further.
What your first 6 months at On might look like:
1 month:
- Get to know the data landscape and introduce yourself to various teams you will be interacting with.
- Pick up and resolve your first change request.
- Participate in code reviews making sure that our code is well designed, tested, robust, secure, compliant, performant and readable.
3 months:
- Introduce a new data source or feature to our codebase.
- Act as a subject matter expert in a business function’s data engineering efforts.
6 months:
- Introduce a significant data product to our systems.
- Seek out for opportunities to simplify and streamline data management systems and processes.
Your story
- You have a working knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling and ELT concepts, and are experienced in SQL programming.
- You have strong programming skills in Python, Scala or equivalent
- You have experience with modern data tools (our data stack is built on GCP and uses BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, Looker & Hex).
- You have experience with software engineering concepts including: git, testing, debugging, research, technical problem solving.
- You have excellent communication skills and can translate business requirements into data solutions.
- You have experience mentoring other data engineers, data analysts and data scientists and increasing data literacy in less technical teams.
- You have a curious mind and a passion for continuous learning.
Bonus:
- You have experience working with product master & lifecycle data technologies
- You have experience working with infrastructure as code tools (we use Terraform).
- You have experience in data observability and in distributed data ownership

The Case Study

Step Five
The Experience Day
Your first taste of the Oniverse. This is a time to meet some of the people you'll be working closest with. In person or virtually, you'll get a feel for the day-to-day at On and the people who make it happen. You'll chat with a few potential teammates - the conversations will be as equally driven by the role and your experience as by our values. We believe how you do things is just as important as what you do.
