In this exciting role, you'll be entrusted to contribute to the design, delivery and management of physical performance strategies as part of a multidisciplinary approach. Among your key responsibilities, will be facilitating the transition of Academy players to our Men's First Team, carefully aligning their development with senior team demands.

You'll be tasked with systematically recording and visualising physical performance data, with a focus on gym-based metrics, to inform coaching decisions and optimise player progress.

Who we are

Your day-to-day

  • Collaborate with senior colleagues on our physical performance framework - you'll support our Lead Physical Performance Coach and Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach in the design, implementation and ongoing review of the physical performance framework
  • Champion impactful strategies and support for individuals - you will relish the opportunity to develop and implement individual physical performance strategies created to develop both Men's First Team and elite Academy players and you'll provide comprehensive, tailored support to ensure their readiness to meet the demands of senior elite football
  • Deliver integrated processes - you'll work closely with our Lead Academy Physical Performance Coach (U18-U21) and our First Team Performance and Medical teams to ensure coordinated planning, consistent communication and seamlessly integrated delivery across all physical preparation processes
  • Oversee key metrics - you will diligently take responsibility for the coordination and reporting of screening and testing data of individual player performance that aligns with our club's objectives to support player profiling, physical benchmarking and the identification of individual performance and development needs
  • Contribute to the capture of physical performance data - you'll play a vital role in the monitoring, recording and analysis of physical performance data, particularly gym-based metrics, to support and guide coaching decisions and enhance communication with our players and staff
  • Conduct and interpret movement-based testing - you will proactively assess players against crucial physical attributes, such as speed and change of direction, to inform player profiling and program design
  • Build and implement individualised programs - you'll be empowered to design, deliver and evaluate individualised programs that align with our club's overarching physical development framework, tailored to players' developmental stage, training age and positional requirements
  • Enhance pre-training player preparation - you will assist the planning and delivery of targeted, effective strategies tailored to individual player needs and team schedules
  • Enable Academy players to step up with confidence - you'll passionately facilitate and support the integration of Academy players into the Men's First Team environment, ensuring clear communication and stakeholder engagement is maintained
  • Keep abreast of industry developments - you will eagerly stay up to date with best practices in athletic development, youth-to-senior transitions, injury prevention and applied performance data analytics to support continuous program evolution
  • Uphold our high standards - you'll collaborate with colleagues to create a culture of excellence, where both players and technical staff are supported in a positive and progressive culture, and you will strive to maintain our club standards in line with our code of conduct, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety and equal opportunities

What we are looking for

  • Extensive experience within elite football - you're equipped with vast experience working in both academy and first team environments at an elite level
  • Credible expertise - you hold an MSc in Strength and Conditioning, Sport Science, or a related discipline and you have UKSCA accreditation (or equivalent)
  • Track record of creating physical development programs - you're proud of your history of designing and delivering individualised physical development programs within a structured long-term athlete development framework, and you have a comprehensive understanding of youth-to-senior athlete transitions and the physical demands of professional football
  • Data-driven approach - you've got a proven ability to systematically record, monitor, and visualise physical performance data, especially gym-based metrics, using tools such as Excel, Smartabase, VALD/ForceDecks, TeamBuildr, NordBord or similar platforms
  • Determination to inspire others - you're highly self-motivated with the ability to inspire and motivate others, demonstrating a winning work ethic and commitment to excellence and you thrive when you're delivering hands-on coaching, including warm-ups, gym sessions, field-based conditioning, and return-to-play work
  • Best-in-class collaborator - you come with experience of contributing to a multidisciplinary team environment, with clear evidence of effective collaboration across Medical, Coaching and Performance teams
  • Excellent communication skills - you possess an innate ability to translate complex data into practical coaching decisions and to impactfully engage players at various stages of development and you're humble in discussions and decision-making, with a proactive, engaging communication style that fosters collaboration
  • Adaptable and flexible style - you're easily able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced elite sport environment, demonstrating initiative, flexibility and resilience under pressure
  • Exceptional attention to detail and professionalism - you are highly organised, detail-oriented and proactive in managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously and you're skilled in producing clear, concise reports and maintaining professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Growth mindset - you lead by example, promoting high performance, accountability and continuous improvement, and you're focused on enhancing knowledge and processes to maintain elite standards in sports science and performance
