Service Description
We are requiring the Services of a Freelancer to be part of the Digital Operations Department, as the Metadata & Personalisation Architecture Specialist to oversee the design and governance of tagging ontologies, taxonomies, and metadata frameworks that drive personalisation and discoverability across Olympic digital platforms.
This role is central to ensuring that content is structured and enriched to power AI-driven recommendations, multilingual search, and personalised user journeys. Working closely with the Data & Analytics Department, the Specialist will align metadata models with audience insights and behavioural data to improve recommendation accuracy and content relevance.
By connecting content architecture with analytics and data pipelines, the Specialist will help deliver tailored, data-informed storytelling experiences to global sports fans, supporting the mission of Olympics.com to inspire, engage, and connect audiences worldwide.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead & Govern Metadata Frameworks
- Design, develop, and maintain metadata schemas, taxonomies, and semantic models to support personalisation and AI-driven content discovery.
- Ensure alignment and consistency of tagging frameworks across platforms, creating scalable and interoperable ontology structures.
- Define and enforce governance models to maintain metadata integrity and ensure sustainable personalisation workflows.
Optimise for AI & Personalisation
- Design tagging workflows that capture meaningful data signals for recommendation engines and machine learning models.
- Conduct metadata quality audits to maintain accuracy, reliability, and alignment with organisational objectives.
- Establish clear standards for metadata enrichment, retrieval, and integration across content and data systems.
Drive Personalisation & Distribution
- Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to refine tagging strategies and enhance AI-driven recommendations.
- Use analytics insights to measure tagging performance and continuously improve personalisation logic.
- Ensure metadata frameworks support adaptive, multi-platform delivery (web, mobile, and OTT), optimising for user behaviour and engagement.
Collaborate for Personalisation Excellence
- Partner with Data & Analytics, Editorial, Product, and (Digital Engagement and Marketing) DEM teams to align metadata with audience segmentation, campaign targeting, and personalisation goals.
- Act as the subject-matter expert and provide guidance, documentation, and training on tagging standards and ontology implementation.
Innovate with AI & Emerging Technologies
- Stay informed on advancements in metadata automation, semantic search, and AI-based personalisation.
- Evaluate and integrate tools leveraging AI/ML, NLP, and automated tagging for scalability and efficiency.
- Develop frameworks that support multilingual personalisation, SEO, and semantic consistency across languages and platforms.
Skills, Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in taxonomy design, metadata management, and ontology governance, ideally within large-scale or digital ecosystems.
- Experience designing metadata structures for AI-based personalisation, recommendation engines, or ML pipelines.
- Strong understanding of SEO, natural language processing (NLP), and semantic technologies.
- Analytical mindset, able to translate data insights into scalable tagging frameworks.
- Experience managing multilingual metadata and large, content-rich environments.
- Familiarity with Olympic sports content or large event ecosystems is a strong advantage.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills in a multicultural environment.
- Passion for digital storytelling, innovation, and audience personalisation.
