About this team

This role is on the Commerce & Services team in the lululemon technology organization. This is a highly technical role with accountability for architecture scoped to business-transformative projects, guiding the design and implementation of technical strategies that support every aspect of our rapidly scaling global business for enabling educator and guest transactions and experiences in stores.

A day in the life

As a Lead Architect, you will interface with key stakeholders and apply your technical proficiency across different stages of the Project Life Cycle including Requirements Elicitation, Application Architecture definition, Design and Development. You will work with other architects and functional leaders to ensure that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. From solving large complex design problems to leading engineers and architects through delivery & implementation, you will act as a key technical leader, driving alignment and clarity across multiple stakeholder groups. You will partner with delivery teams to architect, design, and build flexible, scalable, and resilient applications and services that can more easily adapt to future business needs.

  • Provide architecture delivery support across multiple teams within your delivery unit and actively drive solution alignment between Architects, Sr Architects, Sr. Software Engineers, Lead Engineers, Program & Project Managers, and Product, Business & Engineering leadership
  • Act as solution design lead for large, complex or mission critical projects and initiatives that requires cross-team collaboration spanning an entire Director+ level organization
  • Take ownership of designs that span multiple people's work, breaking work into smaller tasks for Architects, Sr. Architects and may also delegate to Software Engineers and Sr. Software Engineers
  • An accomplished individual contributor, as a Lead Architect you now focus on working through others to achieve delivery goals and drive successful business outcomes and ensure that systems and services are designed, and operating to achieve optimal levels of performance, reliability, and sustainability
  • Represent architectural perspectives and needs during cross-functional roadmap development
  • Proactively seek and drive alignment with multiple Product Managers or primary Business stakeholders.
  • Ensure that product/business solutions align to organizational technology strategy
  • Demonstrates ability to coach team members around best practices for delivering performant and scalable solutions
  • Conduct research to aid in product development and tools selection

Supports in the implementation (development and configuration) of the systems

Develops and maintains current and future-state architecture models and ensures all documentation is kept up to date

Participate in technology reviews and conduct as-built audit + documentation, and work with ops readiness teams to design system continuity and support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT Engineering, Computer Science with more than 10 years' experience
  • 8+ years Java development experience building enterprise applications along with deep understanding of Retail domain
  • 8+ years of experience building applications for In Store commerce
  • Minimum 5 years' experience developing, deploying, scaling and maintaining software systems. A majority of this experience comes from working in and around cloud-based services.
  • Experience on microservice based applications, headless commerce, event-based and message-driven distributed systems
  • Deep hands-on experience using compute, networking, storage, and database components in AWS
  • Experience with delivery of AWS Architectures that includes Application Architecture, Integration Architecture, Data Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Development Architecture, Operations Architecture, and Security Architecture
  • Experience in designing and building cloud native AWS solutions, covering for example container services, serverless architectures, high availability and fault-tolerance implementations, database services, data integration & big data processing and storage concepts
  • Deep understanding of different messaging paradigms (pub/sub, queuing), as well as delivery models, quality-of-service, and fault-tolerance architectures
  • Experience building, architecting, designing, and implementing highly distributed and secure multi-region cloud-based systems
  • Experience influencing a broad range of engineering teams and aligning to a common vision
  • Able to design specific security threat models; able to describe basic and advanced security and compliance aspects of cloud platform primitives.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track and prioritize numerous tasks and to coordinate activities with a high sense of urgency
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, written, interpersonal and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills including collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation
  • Strong collaboration skills to achieve business goals collectively across broad teams
  • Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change
  • Must be capable of providing leadership for junior and senior software engineers alike, understands how to leverage and enhance their current skills

Compensation and Benefits Package

lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from

$148,000-194,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
