The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing and regulatory body for horseracing in Great Britain. It is the BHA's role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse. We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Manager to become a key member of our team on a part time, fixed term basis. This is an exciting new in-house opportunity for someone to work with department leaders to create, implement and develop an operational Health and Safety System supporting our people who work in varied working environments (racecourses, training yards, offices, home based and remote) bringing our people strategy to life. Working in a true partnership role the ideal candidate will have a hands-on, practical approach and will champion a safety focused agenda, feel comfortable and confident reviewing current working practices, promoting new ideas, motivating people to engage in a Safety-first culture. Racing can be fast paced, and we are made up of widespread small teams, so being a credible and trusted team player, who is quick thinking, and solution orientated is a must. You will have the opportunity to work proactively alongside senior leaders, influence and create Health & Safety policy and practice, introduce initiatives, driving Health & System plans that will create a high engagement safety culture and really make a difference. Ideally you will be NEBOSH qualified, have experience of working in a similar role or sporting environments and advising on a wide range of Health & Safety areas including, risk assessments, safety inspections, safe working practices. Experience of working in the equine industry would be an advantage, but not essential and detailed, up to date knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and best practice is important.
