Responsible for delivering expert nutrition support to athletes, with a focus on enhancing performance, recovery, and health. This role provides guidance on dietary practices, supplementation, and anti-doping compliance, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that nutrition strategies align with the SOPC's high-performance objectives.

Job Specific Accountabilities

Individualized Nutrition Planning & Support

  • Design individualized nutrition plans that align with each athlete's specific sport, performance goals, and physiological needs. Adapt plans based on training phases, competition schedules, and recovery requirements to maximize performance.
  • Perform regular nutritional assessments to evaluate athletes' dietary intake, body composition, and metabolic needs. Use this data to tailor nutrition plans that enhance energy levels, recovery, and overall health.
  • Provide on-site nutritional guidance during training camps, competitions, and travel. Ensure athletes have access to the necessary foods, hydration, and supplements to support peak performance and recovery in various settings.
  • Provide management of daily meals and supplements at the training center, ensuring appropriate provision aligned with athletes’ needs and performance requirements.

Education & Athlete Engagement

  • Conduct one-on-one and group education sessions to improve athletes’ understanding of performance nutrition, including the impact of diet on energy levels, recovery, and injury prevention. Develop practical tools to help athletes make informed dietary choices.
  • Empower athletes with knowledge and skills to independently manage their nutrition, particularly while traveling or in high-pressure environments. Offer practical advice on meal planning, hydration strategies, and snack preparation to support their autonomy.
  • Guide athletes on safe and effective use of supplements, ensuring compliance with anti-doping regulations and best practices for health. Regularly review and update supplementation plans as needed.

Monitoring & Data-Driven Adjustments

  • Track key metrics such as body composition, hydration status, and performance indicators in collaboration with the Athlete Management System. Use insights to adjust nutrition plans as needed to optimize health and performance outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed records of each athlete's nutritional plans, assessments, and outcomes. Provide reports and updates to coaches and multidisciplinary teams, using data to support adjustments and strategy development.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of nutrition interventions by monitoring progress, recovery rates, and performance outcomes. Use evidence-based findings to refine and improve nutrition strategies continuously.

Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams

  • Work closely with coaches, strength and conditioning specialists, sports physicians, and physiotherapists to provide holistic support to athletes. Ensure that nutrition strategies align with overall training, performance, and recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to develop nutrition plans that aid in injury recovery, reduce inflammation, and support tissue repair. Tailor dietary recommendations to facilitate optimal healing and expedited return to performance.
  • Liaise with the team’s logistics and management staff to ensure that nutrition resources (e.g., food supplies, supplements) are available for athletes during travel, training camps, and international competitions.

Research & Professional Development

  • Keep up to date with the latest research and advancements in sports nutrition, including emerging strategies and best practices for high-performance athletes. Apply relevant insights to continuously improve nutrition services.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of organization-wide nutrition programs, policies, and protocols. Ensure that these initiatives reflect current science, safety standards, and SOPC’s commitment to athlete well-being.
