Senior Manager, Legal Counsel

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANIZATION:

Provide general legal services to the adidas Group to support adidas Japan and Market Japan by independently supporting the Director Legal & Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assume responsibility for and handle all national commercial legal matters of adidas Japan and Market Japan including counselling, contract review, drafting and negotiation, structuring of transactions, legal risk assessment, and dispute avoidance without need of supervision.
• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts to protect the interests of the adidas Group (including promotion agreements, distribution agreements, agreements for authorized retailers, real estate agreements).

• Help negotiate resolution of legal and business disputes for client groups.
• Conduct educational programs and materials for client groups as appropriate in relevant legal areas.
• Provide support to ensure compliance-related matters are appropriately handled including all aspects of communication, education, and facilitation of compliance issues. Act as the contact person for internal clients in legal matters.
• Coordinate external specialist lawyers.
• Negotiate contracts and disputes with external opposing legal counsels (in-house and outside counsel).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong background in contract law, drafting and negotiation and business counselling
• Ability to work independently and manage and prioritize substantial and diverse workload
• Strong team player
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Collaborate with global/regional team members

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

• Law degree, graduated from a law school or equivalent degree
• Several years of work experience within a large international company or in a law firm
• Corporate counsel experience in general corporate, transactional and commercial law
• Legal work experiences in some of marketing, sport marketing, retail, wholesale, e-commerce, supply chain, consumer service, and design are preferrable.
• Business Level in English and Fluent in Japanese
