Description
Reporting to the Head of Media Relations, FIFA World Cup 26™, the Media Relations Manager will be a key member of the FIFA26 Communications & PR team led by the Executive Director, Public Relations, and work in close collaboration with the Zurich-based FIFA Communications and Media Relations teams and other key individuals responsible for delivering Public Relations efforts for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This role will be responsible for executing comprehensive communication strategies to promote the tournament, manage media relations, and ensure effective messaging to stakeholders and the public. Further, this role will support the Head of Media Relations in proactive story ideation, pitching and placement across targeted media throughout the tournament footprint and beyond to maintain a positive public image and enhance engagement during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
THE POSITION
The main responsibilities and oversights of the Media Relations Manager for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:
- Contribute to the development and execution of integrated communication strategies that effectively promote the FIFA World Cup 2026, aligning with event objectives and messaging.
- Coordinate the creation of compelling and accurate press releases, news articles, and media materials for distribution.
- Proactively identify story opportunities and secure positive placements to promote not only the tournament, but reinforce the FIFA President's Strategic Objectives for the Global Game: 2023-2027.
- Develop engaging content for various platforms, including social media, website, and official publications, to engage audiences and promote the event.
- Monitor media coverage and social media sentiment, providing timely insights and adjusting communication strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels and touchpoints.
- Manage relationships with external partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to ensure accurate representation and messaging alignment.
- Coordinate media events, press conferences, and media-related logistics in advance of, and during the tournament, ensuring smooth execution.
- Foster positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to enhance event coverage and visibility.
- Evaluate communication efforts post-event, analyzing successes and areas for improvement to inform future strategies and initiatives.
YOUR PROFILE
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or similar level of higher education
Work Experience
- Sports industry experience, preferably in soccer (domestic or international)
- Minimum 7 years of experience in media relations, preferably in a soccer club, league, tournament, federation or confederation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
- Existing media network throughout the North American soccer/sports landscape, both in major Tier 1 publications and regional outlets
- Familiarity with increasing digital media content creation around sports, soccer, entertainment and pop culture
- Project management experience a must
- Ability to see the big picture and adapt accordingly
- Ability to work under pressure
Languages
- Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
Technology
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
