Description
The Facility/Cleaning and Waste Management Manager will be a key member of the FIFA Infrastructure and Technical Services Team and closely collaborate with the FIFA Sustainability & Environment Department, Catering, Concessions, Marketing Right Delivery, Logistics, Broadcast, Security and Protocol functional areas, various other relevant tournament functional areas and key individuals responsible for delivering sustainable cleaning and integrated resource management services at FIFA World Cup sites in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.

THE POSITION
The primary responsibilities and oversights of the Cleaning and Waste Management Manager for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ include:

  • Lead and manage the Facility/Cleaning and Waste Management project across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Engage proactively in resource management, focusing on upstream planning and integrating circular solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency, promote a circular economy, minimise waste generation, and ensure excellent cleaning services provision.
  • Work with tournament functional areas and stadium teams to implement a holistic waste management approach, including prevention, minimisation, repurposing, segregation, composting, and recycling.
  • Develop and promote solutions to avoid and reduce resource use, encouraging the reuse of products and materials.
  • Establish and achieve waste reduction goals in collaboration with internal stakeholders, addressing challenges organisers and spectators face.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, staying updated on trends in cleaning and resource management technologies.
  • Manage relationships with external waste management vendors and service providers, ensuring contractual compliance and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainable Supply Chain Manager to procure products and materials that maximise resource efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Support Host Cities and other key stakeholders in implementing sustainable waste management practices.
  • Raise awareness among contractors, participants, and attendees about waste avoidance, reduction, and segregation.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on proper waste handling procedures, promoting a culture of sustainability and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and provide transparent reporting of waste generation and disposal practices, identifying areas for improvement.

  • Develop and maintain documentation and reporting systems to track waste generation, recycling rates, and key performance indicators.
  • Ensure Cleaning and Waste Management Service Level Agreements are integrated into the Stadium's operational protocols.
  • Ensure the development of Cleaning and Waste Management operational plans is aligned with Service Level Agreements.
  • Contribute to the tournament's sustainability reporting on resource management and cleaning activities.

YOUR PROFILE
Minimum requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of the following: waste management, sustainability, environmental studies, economics or a similar field
  • Zero Waste certifications or other such as TRUE is a plus
  • Post-graduate degree(s) for the above areas is an asset
  • Minimum five years of experience in the management of complex, multi-stakeholder cleaning and sustainable waste management projects with a proven track record in the industry of global events in the role of project leader;
  • Minimum three years of experience in facility cleaning and waste management operations, preferably in stadiums; Experience in creating project concepts and coordinating their implementation;
  • Track record of being passionate, innovative, resourceful and purpose-driven in managing cleaning and waste management projects;
  • Concrete understanding of legal framework on circular economy and waste management across the Host Cities in the United States and preferably also in Canada and Mexico, as well as of relevant standards and global best practices;
  • Experience in working as part of a multi-cultural team and in working across countries remotely;
  • Comprehensive understanding and prior engagement with key commercial, governmental, and NGO stakeholders involved in cleaning and resource management domestically within the United States and across Canada and Mexico. International experience, particularly in mega sporting events, is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in fostering, building and maintaining relationships with groups of experts and stakeholders;
  • Experience in change management integrating circular economy requirements in processes and procedures across an organisation´s business.

Preferred additional experience:

  • Demonstrated experience working in the field of sports and events and, in particular, mega sporting events;
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with local governments and other governmental entities to plan and execute Cleaning and Waste Management initiatives in host countries;
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with international sustainability standards and conventions;
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing innovative cleaning and waste reduction strategies and technologies;
  • Proven track record in leading sustainability initiatives and achieving waste management goals;
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements related to waste management;
  • Strong project management skills, including coordinating and overseeing resource management projects from inception to completion;
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and community outreach initiatives to promote sustainable waste management practices;
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in waste management, including circular economy principles and resource recovery techniques.
