Full Description

Armed Forces Placement - The Racing Industry Course

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing and regulatory body for horseracing in Great Britain. It is the BHA’s role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, with a key objective being to ensure the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse.

As part of our continued commitment to support the Armed Forces Covenant and to attracting a greater diversity of talent, the BHA are looking to offer a fully funded place on The Racing Industry Course for Service leavers and Veterans.

The Racing Industry Course gives a complete overview of the horseracing industry with leading trainers and jockeys giving their perspective of the hands-on aspects of racing, while a number of the sport’s administrators detail the day-to-day running of thoroughbred racing and breeding.

The course would be suitable for a wide range of people, ranging from those new to racing through to middle manager level or anyone who simply wants to broaden their knowledge of the British and international racing scene. It includes a combination of different activities, with the programme involving lectures, seminars and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of destinations of interest such as Tattersalls, a top trainer’s yard and a prominent Stud Farm.

It is a five-day course running from Monday 2 February (arrival 1 February) to Friday 6 February 2026 at the British Racing School in Newmarket. The course will be fully funded which includes reasonable travel costs to and from the venue at the start and finish of the course. It is residential, and all meals, accommodation and excursions will be paid for by the BHA.
