Course overview 

Delivered in partnership with the University of Newcastle, the Master of Sports Analytics is a future-focused degree designed for data-driven students aspiring to careers in sports business or performance analysis. As the sports industry increasingly relies on data to drive decision-making, this program equips students with essential analytical and research skills, preparing them for roles in clubs, governing bodies, media, and performance departments.

Course Content

The Master of Sports Analytics provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the role of data in modern sports management and performance. The course explores fundamental concepts such as sports statistics, big data, and digital storytelling, giving students the tools to analyse and interpret data for strategic decision-making. Students will also develop expertise in data wrangling and visualisation, ensuring they can transform complex data sets into actionable insights.

For those interested in talent development, the program offers specialised training in Talent Identification and Recruitment, focusing on scouting and performance analysis. Optional modules such as New Media Analytics for Sports Business allow students to explore the impact of digital technology on the industry, while the Global Study Tour provides a unique international perspective on sports analytics. The Applied Placement: Workplace Learning module ensures students gain practical, hands-on experience within a professional sports organisation, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

Standard Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or
  • Bachelor Honours degree or
  • Advanced Diploma plus 1 year relevant work experience or
  • Diploma plus 2 years relevant work experience or
  • 3 years relevant work experience
  • Relevant work experience includes: business, commerce, data analytics, international studies journalism, media, sports, statistics or equivalent.
  • Work experience can be demonstrated through certified copies of all relevant qualifications, a detailed CV, and a statement of service or signed letters from employers confirming your role, duties and period of employment.
