Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) was created by the International Olympic Committee in 2001 in order to serve as the Host Broadcast organisation for all Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Host Broadcaster is responsible for delivering the pictures and sounds of the Olympic Games to billions of viewers around the world. It produces and transmits unbiased live radio and television coverage of every sport from every venue.

Job Description

The Transport Specialist is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all transportation-related activities for the Games, ensuring seamless operations across various departments. This role involves close collaboration with Production, Engineering, Planning, and other departments to understand their transportation needs, plan bus and fleet operations in conjunction with the Organising Committee, and manage multiple teams within OBS Transport, including bus operations, fleet operations, and Motorpool management. The Transport Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that all transportation logistics are executed efficiently and in line with the overall objectives of the Games.

Duties & Responsibilities

Interdepartmental Coordination:

• Serve as the primary liaison between Production, Engineering, Planning, and other departments to assess and understand their transportation requirements for the Games.

• Facilitate clear and effective communication between departments to ensure that all transportation needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.

• Participate in regular planning meetings and provide input on transportation logistics, ensuring alignment with overall event objectives.

Geographical and Operational Planning:

• Gain a thorough understanding of the geography of the Games, including all relevant venues, routes, and transportation hubs.

• Develop and communicate detailed transportation plans to stakeholders, ensuring that all personnel understand the logistics and can navigate the event smoothly.

• Work closely with the Organising Committee of the Games to plan and coordinate bus and fleet operations, ensuring optimal routing and scheduling.

Oversight of OBS Transport Teams:

• Direct and oversee various teams within OBS Transport, including bus operations, fleet operations, vehicular pass planning/organisation/distribution, and Motorpool.

• Ensure that all transport operations are executed in line with the established plans and that any issues are promptly addressed.

• Supervise the hiring process for all transport workforce during Games, ensuring that all personnel are qualified and trained for their roles.

Fleet and Bus Operations:

• Develop and implement strategies for efficient fleet and bus operations, ensuring that all vehicles are properly maintained and scheduled.

• Coordinate with the Organising Committee to ensure that bus and fleet operations align with the overall event schedule and transportation demands.

• Responsible for the distribution of vehicular passes, ensuring that all necessary personnel have the required access.

Hiring and Supervision:

• Lead the hiring process for all transport teams, including Motorpool, oversee venue, and departmental drivers, ensuring that all candidates meet the necessary qualifications and experience.

• Provide ongoing supervision and support to personnel, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities and are equipped to perform their duties effectively.

• Monitor team’s performance and provide feedback or additional training as needed to maintain high standards of service.

Communication and Problem-Solving:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all transportation-related enquiries, providing clear and accurate information to all stakeholders.

• Address any transportation issues or challenges that arise during the event, implementing solutions to minimise disruption and maintain smooth operations.

• Prepare and deliver regular reports on transportation activities, performance metrics, and any issues encountered.

Skills, Requirements & Qualifications

• A Suitable/ Relevant Tertiary qualification.

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in transport management or logistics, preferably in large-scale events or operations.

• Proven experience in supervising diverse teams and coordinating complex transportation logistics.

• In-depth knowledge of transportation planning, fleet management, and vehicle operations.

• As part of the role’s responsibilities, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license that has been held for at least three years and be able to drive in the operational host countries.

• Demonstrates a strong capability and interest in acquiring and applying knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks governing transportation, workforce, and driver operations across all operational countries.

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Essential Skills:

• Supervisory skills: Strong supervisory skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.

• Organisational Skills: Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate large-scale transportation operations.

• Communication: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex logistics clearly.

• Problem-Solving and proactiveness: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address and resolve transportation issues quickly.

• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using transportation management software, MS Office suite, and other relevant tools e.g. AI tools is advantageous.

• Geographical Knowledge: Ability to learn and understand the geography of the present and future Games and effectively communicate this information to others.

Workplace & Environment

Schedule Availability: This role requires flexibility to work fulltime availability. Weekend and holiday coverage may also be required as per business needs.

Location: Madrid, Spain

Opportunity to travel to the Games as required by business/ team.
