Distinguished by its culture of collaboration and exceptional client service, CAA’s diverse workforce identifies, innovates, and amplifies opportunities for the people and organizations that shape culture and inspire the world. The trailblazer of the agency business, CAA was the first to build a sports business, create an investment bank, launch a venture fund, found technology start-up companies, establish a philanthropic arm, build a business in China, and form a brand marketing services division, among other innovations.

The Role

CAA is seeking an Associate based in Los Angeles for a unique and highly visible position at the company in the Strategic Client Advisory department, at the intersection of Motion Picture, Television and Corporate Strategy. The position is part of a small team that works to maximize the value of our Film & TV clients in an evolving media landscape.

The Associate will work on a variety of strategic projects centered on maximizing the value of Film & TV talent, projects and companies. This will include advising client production companies and independent studios, and analyzing the media landscape (with an emphasis on media company strategies and state-of-the-art dealmaking). These projects will interface directly with company leadership, agents, clients and external thought partners. The role will also help build internal infrastructure to bolster the team’s ability to develop proactive thought leadership and advise relevant clients and stakeholders.

The candidate should be comfortable owning multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate should be a team player who enjoys cutting through ambiguity, building consensus among stakeholders and driving projects to completion. The candidate should work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines. The candidate should be a self-starter with excellent skills in strategic thinking, written and interpersonal communication, in-depth research, presentation and cross-departmental collaboration. The candidate should have the ability to distill complex concepts into easy-to-understand materials through data visualization and advanced slide design. Expertise in Excel and PowerPoint are musts.

The ideal candidate has a strong command of the Film & TV business and a desire to learn more.

    • Identify & pursue opportunities to develop & output insights, including building relevant knowledge documents & template materials

    • Support individual deals, which may include running valuations, advising on deal structures, drafting term sheets, identifying points of unique leverage and researching precedent

    • Build & maintain foundational team infrastructure and proprietary databases

  • Manage consulting engagements with client production companies and independent studios, which will include:

    • Lead research & analysis to develop corporate and vertical-specific growth strategy

    • Build & update financial models (incl. company P&L, film slate model, etc.)

    • Build & maintain relationships with clients, their teams, and other external stakeholders

    • Build pitch materials to pursue new clients

    • Draft SOW and manage day-to-day of projects (incl. lead meetings, build materials, proactively identify & solve roadblocks)

    • Drive execution of strategy for clients, working closely with colleagues & external counterparts

  • Support the broader team, which may include:

    • Support analysis and structuring of Film & TV deals (both single-picture deals and first look/overalls) in collaboration with clients and their teams (including agents, lawyers and managers)

    • Own proprietary Film and TV databases (including historical talent deal comps, studio windowing, and studio/film profitability)

    • Lead collaboration with FP&A to update client compensation forecasts on high-value titles (incl. cash flow projections)

    • Run financial models of Film & TV ultimates to support client deal negotiations
