Full Description

Overview: As a Senior Manager, Security & Platform Engineering at Fanatics, you'll build the technical foundation for our sports-futures trading platform while fostering a culture of transparent collaboration and continuous learning. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will define and execute our platform and security engineering strategy through people-centered leadership—creating processes, tooling, and best practices that ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of both internal services and customer-facing products.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a cross-functional team of platform and security engineers through transparent communication and dedicated personal development, focusing on building, deploying, and maintaining cloud-native services and infrastructure while prioritizing individual growth and team cohesion.
  • Define, implement, and maintain a scalable CI/CD pipeline aligned with GitOps principles and industry best practices, fostering collaborative decision-making and knowledge sharing throughout the process.
  • Architect and oversee Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices including observability tooling, chaos testing, incident management, and capacity planning, emphasizing proactive problem identification and data-driven continuous improvement.
  • Develop, enforce, and continuously improve security standards and controls (e.g., vulnerability management, secure coding guidelines, incident response playbooks) through collaborative solution development and mutual respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Drive a data-driven platform & security roadmap with full transparency: establish meaningful KPIs, track metrics with clear context, and provide honest status and risk reporting to executive audiences.
  • Partner authentically with Product, Platform Engineering, and engineering leadership to prioritize technical initiatives, integrate security requirements early in the lifecycle, and ensure alignment with business goals through open communication.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance for critical deployments, lead troubleshooting of high-severity incidents with psychological safety, and conduct thorough post-mortems with actionable follow-through and learning opportunities.
  • Build and maintain genuine relationships with stakeholders across FEX and FBG, presenting insights, metrics, and recommendations with clarity and vulnerability when appropriate.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud, platform engineering, and security through continuous learning—evaluating and adopting new tools and practices collaboratively with the team.
  • Travel occasionally to Fanatics Betting & Gaming and offices for conferences, meetings, and team-building events to strengthen personal connections and shared understanding.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing high-performance engineering teams with demonstrated people-centered leadership approach.
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) with ability to teach and develop others.
  • Hands-on experience with observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK), chaos engineering, and incident management frameworks, preferably with experience fostering blameless post-mortem cultures.
  • Deep familiarity with CI/CD and GitOps workflows (e.g., Jenkins, Argo CD, GitHub Actions) and collaborative implementation practices.
  • Strong background in security engineering: OWASP, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, IAM, and incident response with experience building security-conscious team cultures.
  • Proficiency in one or more languages (Java, Go, Python, Kotlin) and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions through transparent stakeholder communication.
  • Excellent communicator and presenter with experience influencing decision-making at the executive level through authentic relationship-building and data-driven insights.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, balanced with human-centered decision making.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams in a fast-paced, regulated environment with emphasis on psychological safety and open communication is a plus.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude with genuine commitment to transparent feedback and willingness to embrace new initiatives through continuous learning.
  • Experience or interest in sports betting, financial markets, or other regulated industries is highly desirable.
