THE POSITION

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Sportsbook team, you will partner closely with the Director of Engineering and fellow engineers to harness innovative technologies, creating cutting-edge customer experiences and driving internal advancements.

As a software engineer, you will work in empowered, multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products for a growing community of millions of players as we build out an exciting and innovative customer experience within the fast paced and growing sports betting environment. 

As a member of the Sportsbook team, you’ll build solutions for the scale and longevity for our rapidly growing company. You write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects. You are proficient in a broad range of data structures and algorithms, knowing when it is appropriate to use them and when it is not. You make appropriate implementation trade-off decisions. You participate in team design, scoping, and prioritization discussions. You seek to learn the business context and technologies behind your team's software. You work effectively with other team members & identify any opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions. You invent, refine, and develop your solutions to ensure they are meeting customer needs and team goals. Most importantly, you are a passionate advocate for our customers and are an eager mentor and role model to our engineers. 

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.


THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

Reporting into a Director of Engineering within the Sportsbook group, you will oversee and influence frontend architectural direction, systems design, software implementation, and software quality for the Sportsbook application. More importantly, you will be part of the core team directly accountable for the technology platform developed by our Engineering teams, acting as a thought leader and mentor for those teams.  

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Become a leader on Sportsbook operational excellence, taking a hands-on approach to the resolution of the vertical’s most complex issues when needed. 
  • Write simple code, taking complex paradigms and implementing them in a way that Engineers at all levels can understand and contribute to. Insist on high standards for code quality while not letting perfection be the enemy of good. 
  • Influence the strategy of our engineering teams, helping them understand how to make technical trade-off decisions between short-term business needs and long-term technology needs. 
  • Foster a constructive dialogue and seek resolutions in a professional way.
  • Keep yourself up to date with market standards and open-source frameworks.
  • Demonstrate humility, pragmatism, self-management, and a thirst for knowledge.
  • Drive engineering engagement best practices (e.g., Operational Excellence, Security, Quality, etc.) and set standards for the Sportsbook group. 
  • Help others leverage your expertise, by coaching and mentoring within the organization. Contribute to the professional development of Engineers within the Sportsbook group, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices. 
  • Provide excellent customer support on an on-call rotation where required. 

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • Expert level experience building and designing highly scalable, fault tolerant and highly available systems.  
  • Experience influencing technical decisions across large Engineering verticals.  
  • Understand a broad range of complex data structures and algorithms.  
  • Expert level understanding of design patterns and architectural principles.  
  • Experience in making pragmatic trade-off decisions between short- and long-term needs. 
  • Experience in both iOS and React Native development essential, with a proven history of improving render performance in some frontend framework 
  • Deep expertise in Swift, UIKit, and SwiftUI, and a strong understanding of iOS architecture patterns 
  • Passion for quality and understanding of quality best practices within an SDLC, with experience in unit testing, testing tools, or integration testing. 
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive with demonstrated abilities driving operational excellence and best practices. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills; this role has considerable exposure to senior leaders, with a need to communicate complex technical activities in a simple manner to varying stakeholders.  
  • Your leadership skills ensure that you are seen as a role model and able to influence teams with your technical knowledge and experience of delivery and Agile ways of working, particularly scaled agile methodologies.  
  • Proficient in responsibility delegating, mentoring, and empowering individuals. 
  • Approachability, open-mindedness, and an ability to work well with people at all levels of the business is at the heart of how we work.  
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrable knowledge.

The applicable salary range for this position is $182,000 - $228,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
