WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

The Senior Manager of Product & Material Development Engineering partners closely with Product Risk Engineering, Materials, Product Creation, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Materials Quality Engineering, and Nike’s vendors and factories. Reporting to the Director, Product Risk Engineering, this role engages with cross-functional partners to mitigate risk in material and garment development. The candidate will be based in Singapore, managing a remote team.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a Senior Product & Material Development Engineering Manager to join the Product Risk Engineering team. In this position, the individual will serve as both a player and a coach, working directly with Nike’s vendors and factories while overseeing a team of Product and Material Development Engineers. The team will be accountable for driving Nike’s risk assessment for materials and products through in-region and on-site validations, critical process documentation, and the implementation of mitigation tools and processes with factories and vendors. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset focused on process improvements and demonstrate extensive knowledge of material and garment manufacturing supply chains.

This role involves engaging with various stakeholders across development and supply chain, as well as factories and vendors, to ensure that developments are repeatable and scalable. Nike is looking for a candidate with strong leadership and coaching skills, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented approach.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel, Textile, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years’ apparel and/or materials manufacturing experience, or relevant combination of education and experience. Background in quality or manufacturing engineering strongly preferred.

  • Experience in a mill and/or garment factory setting, specifically in areas of quality management, process engineering, and root cause analysis and corrective action.

  • Knowledge of the apparel development process from inception through production, including but not limited to material development, product development, manufacturing, and machinery

  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and work across a global organization.

  • Ability to manage and foster a diverse team both co-located and remote.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to excel in a deadline driven environment and bring things to resolution.

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail and process orientation.

  • Ability to act as a technical resource, manage the team and lead initiatives through high energy and positive influence.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and manage expectations with multiple stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of MS Office programs; experience in Airtable and Smartsheets is a plus.

  • Ability to travel 20% (international)

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

As a Senior Product & Material Development Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing design and development risk assessments, partnering with both factory and vendor teams as well as cross-functional counterparts. Your leadership will ensure best practices and process alignment from concept through production, supporting your team and partners with expert guidance. You will manage validation activities, drive clear communication, and help maintain high standards for material and product quality, all while fostering diversity and professional growth within your team.

  • Guide your team and partners from concept to production start, supervising progress and offering expertise.

  • Manage validation activities, calendars, and escalate changes or exceptions to business leaders.

  • Ensure vendors and factories are prepared for bulk production, meeting Nike’s quality, aesthetic, and performance standards.

  • Support Product and Material Development Engineers while managing your own key programs.

  • Attend meetings and provide clear communication to guide teams through validation and risk assessment processes.

  • Balance short-term deadlines with long-term strategic objectives.

  • Participate in on-site travel to factories and vendors for hands-on validation and risk assessment.
