About Invictus Games 2025:
The Invictus Games is a biennial international adaptive sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world. Through the power of sport, the Games inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country.
The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will take place from February 8 to 16, 2025, on the traditional territories of the Lil ̓ wat7 xFA l (L xED l ̓ wat), x ʷ m ə θ k ʷə y ̓ə m (Musqueam), S ḵ wx ̱ w xFA 7mesh (Squamish) and s ə lilw ə ta ɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Over 500 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and Veterans from more than 20 nations are set to compete in a wide range of adaptive sports, including adaptive winter sports, for the first time in Invictus Games history.
The Vancouver Whistler Games Corporation (VWGC) is a Canadian not-for-profit organization established to organize and host the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
The Role
The Security Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders involved in the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. This position is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of security strategies, assisting with risk management, and ensuring the effective operation of security measures. The Security Specialist will work closely with the Security Manager, external partners, and other event teams to mitigate potential risks and respond to any security incidents in a timely and efficient manner.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the security plan, following the overall security framework and risk assessment provided by the security contractor.
- Proactively identify security vulnerabilities and contribute to the development of countermeasures and contingency plans to address potential threats.
- Provide support during security incidents and emergencies, following established procedures and contributing to the resolution of issues.
- Assist in conducting regular security briefings and training sessions for staff and volunteers to ensure understanding and compliance with security protocols.
- Work closely with governmental agencies, service providers, and contractors to ensure compliance with security regulations and the successful implementation of security measures.
- Monitor the effectiveness of security operations and assist in adjusting security protocols as needed during the Games.
- Ensure effective communication between the security team, senior management, and other relevant stakeholders regarding security updates, concerns, and actions
- Actively participate in resolving security-related issues as they arise, using sound judgment and a proactive approach.
- Uphold and integrate the Invictus Games Movement's values into all security activities, ensuring that security measures support the event's inclusive and empowering environment.
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies:
- University qualifications in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Proven experience in security operations, preferably within large-scale events, sporting competitions, or similar high-profile environments.
- Formal training and practical experience in the Gold/Silver/Bronze Incident Management system.
- Strong understanding of security frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating strong collaboration and support for leadership in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure.
- A high level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all event participants and stakeholders.
