WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

At Nike, the Global Brand Communications team curates and amplifies the company’s narrative—building powerful relationships, influence, and opportunities through storytelling and experience that help Nike reach new audiences, expand brand perception and grow the business.

The role will report into the Senior Director, Global Sportswear and Energy Communications, and will have deep experience at the intersection of sport, style and culture, and is someone who understands how Nike shows up in the world and how that meaning evolves. The individual will work closely to serve the edges of sport areas the Global Communications team and with a highly matrixed and cross-functional group across the following areas: Brand Marketing, Athlete, Legal and Sports Marketing.

The Principal, Global Energy and Entertainment Communications is creative brand communications leader with who brings bold ideas, a collaborative spirit, and a sharp instinct for identifying cultural opportunities that will inspire the next generation of athletes*. Success requires adaptive leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to harness diverse perspectives to unlock new opportunities. You have an innate sense for what moments matter and how to make them resonate. You’ve worked alongside creatives, stylists, athletes, agency partners, and editors and you know how to translate product priorities into stories that take Nike to new spaces and places. You think globally, and lead with instinct, credibility and taste.

The individual should also be proactive, creative, and capable of thinking through problems and presenting solutions. Being culturally curious, having an eye for design and trend, and an appreciation and understanding of popular culture is a must.

The ideal candidate needs:

  • Bachelor's degree in degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field is preferred. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training
  • 8+ years in in-house brand communications, media relations, or PR agency, ideally in the entertainment (film, TV, Music) industry, high-end fashion or luxury goods sector - highly preferred
  • Deep passion and knowledge of entertainment, luxury landscape, design, pop culture and Nike brand.
  • Proven ability to communicate plans across a complex matrix to influence cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience initiating and driving the ideation process to contribute meaningful, innovative strategies to the business at concept stage.
  • High aptitude for creative thinking balanced against bottom line business needs. 

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

Our work encompasses written, visual and digital communication. We focus on information and connection - what is created, how it is managed, distributed and consumed to accelerate the growth to our sportswear business. 

  • You will be building and driving communications strategies that builds energy, connection, and inspire our geographies to storyteller in new ways that push the boundaries of sport and culture.
  • Drive the global entertainment and energy communications strategy defining messaging and seasonal story architecture
  • Build and execute the global entertainment and comms strategy for collaboration product launches and cultural moments, energize key brand sport initiatives, bring new ideas that push Nike in white spaces, and cultivate relationships with creatives, visionaries.
  • Develop and execute storytelling strategies across earned media, creators, speaking engagements to maximize reach and impact.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and new media behaviors to inform strategic decisions 
  • Lead stakeholder alignment across product, brand, sports marketing, retail, and geographies to deliver cohesive communications plans.
  • Create and tailor global energy experiences that elevate the brand and drive distinction.
  • Manage budgets and allocate resources to deliver high-impact storytelling and activations.
  • Oversee agency ecosystems, setting scopes, creative direction, and best in class standards.
  • Oversee bi-annual product previews: product, content, creative direction and confirmations
  • Meet regularly with the Merchandising and Brand teams to have a full understanding of new product launches and timelines in order to execute comms strategies.
