WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will work closely with Engineering, Design, Digital, Nike Sports Research Lab, Program Management and Algorithm/Firmware teams.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Controls Lead to join a newly formed team developing innovative, powered athlete products. You will be responsible for innovating and implementing new control solutions to advance our developing products.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, or training
  • BS in engineering or computer science with 15+ years of experience; MS with 10+ years of experience; PhD with 7+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in:
  • Implementation & Architecture: Adjusting and implementing quality final solutions that are computationally efficient, modular, and maintainable.
  • Mechanics: Biomechanics, Kinematics and Dynamics
  • Machine learning: Decision-making, optimization, and system modeling
  • Electromechanical Control: Sensors, filtering, and motor control
  • Strong knowledge of C and MATLAB, with at least an intermediate level of Python and C++.
  • Experience identifying and solving hard problems and structural issues with creative solutions including algorithmic and/or codebase reorganization.
  • Experience ensuring that assigned projects are successful from a Control's team standpoint; responsibility, accountability, and independence are key.
  • Experience with human subject testing, data collection, real-time performance tracking.
  •  Experience with high-level “non-classical” control algorithms & techniques (MPC, LQR, Kalman filtering, etc.).
  • Experience converting basic prototypes to quality implementations  
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • Technical project management and planning, including creation of requirements, constraints, timelines, and methods to manage risk.
  • Positive energy, curiosity, and a passion for building magical products that users love.
  • Strong technical savvy and understanding/curiosity about emerging innovative technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous learning is core to our identity.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves to win as a team.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
As Controls Lead, you will play a critical role in driving the execution of our powered athlete product roadmap. You will be responsible for the implementation of algorithms and firmware in controls, ensuring our products deliver a superior user experience.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Combine developing, debugging, and optimizing real-time software in novel ways to deliver new features that have immediate impact.
  • Determine and implement the appropriate pattern recognition, heuristics, sensor fusion, data analysis, and/or machine learning techniques to address real athlete needs.
  • Integrate high-level decision-making and motion control for developing systems.
  • Help advance Nike's understanding of control systems.
  • Clearly understand and predict athlete's needs to create the ultimate user experience.
  • Scope controls work to be consistent with project goals. Create, execute, and communicate plans, timelines, and resources to break high level problems into more detailed actionable steps while managing risk.
  • Proactively work with our multidisciplinary team to represent the Controls Team on complex system solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership of team of algorithms, controls, and firmware engineers to support magical product experiences.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and researchers to ensure that controls systems serve the athlete.
