                                     Performance Psychologist - Women’s Team (Casual)
                                                           Location: Location: Carrington Training Complex

The Role: 

The Performance Psychologist will play a vital role in developing the mental skills of the women’s first team players, enhancing performance, promoting a positive environment and a cohesive team. This role is central to ensuring players are psychologically prepared to meet the demands of elite-level competition. 

The post holder will deliver psychological services in alignment with the women's performance psychology strategy. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Lead the design and delivery of psychology support to the women’s first team. 
  • Work closely with the coaching and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) staff to embed psychological principles across all aspects of training, competition, and recovery. 
  • Provide individual, group and organisational interventions to support performance. 
  • Support staff development in understanding and applying psychology within their roles. 
  • Act as the primary psychological support during key competitions and phases of the season. 
  • Work closely with the Performance Wellbeing Officer to ensure holistic support and development of players. 
  • Engage in proactive case management and work closely with the wider MDT to address performance and well-being concerns. 
  • Collaborate with wider club psychology departments to ensure consistent and comprehensive support. 
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Football Culture and Development, Women’s Team Manager and Director of women’s football.

The Person: 
Qualifications 

  • BSc (Hons) and MSc in Psychology/Sport Psychology.
  • Professional qualification via BPS QSEP, BASES SEPAR, or HCPC-approved Doctorate route.
  • HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (or eligible to achieve registration within an agreed timeframe). 

Skills and Experience 

  • Demonstrable experience working as a psychologist in a high-performance sport environment, preferably in elite women’s sport. 
  • Proven experience integrating psychological support within a professional sport environment. 
  • Understanding of the demands, culture, and structure of elite women’s football. 
  • Skilled in working collaboratively with coaches and support staff to optimise performance and well-being. 
  • Passionate about athlete-centred care and long-term personal development. 
  • Committed to continuous professional development and contributing to an elite performance environment. 
  • Strong belief in the positive power of sport to develop individuals on and off the pitch.
