Full Description

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for preparing packaging specifications and developing new packaging configurations, managing the design and development of packaging for new and existing product releases from concept design through production. Reporting to the Director of BOM & Planning, this individual will take a leadership role with packaging projects and possess the ability to influence cross-functional teams within a fast-paced business.

Responsibilities
• Prepares and maintains packaging specifications based on the finished good configurations required by the Product Development and Sales, outlined in bills of materials
• Works with manufacturers to assemble finished goods based on packaging specifications
• Calculates sizing and works with printer for packaging dielines, reviews and approves dielines from printer, provides Graphics team with dielines based on product release schedule, and develops new dielines where necessary
• Develops new packaging configurations and specifications per the guidance and vision of Brand department, as well as produces functional prototypes of new configurations for approval
• Prototypes packaging and models using appropriate materials: flexible, corrugated, and folding carton manufacturing, plastic film and pressure sensitive labels, and other materials as appropriate.
• Identifies and presents new and innovative packaging formats and materials to Product Development department
• Identifies new opportunities and trends for packaging materials and configurations in order to improve quality, cost, and reliability

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree and minimum of 3 years' experience in Packaging Development or related field
• Understanding of packaging design, materials, sourcing, and functionality
• Ability to work independently on assigned projects
• Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
• Understanding of bill of materials and product specifications
• Ability to meet deadlines while delivering high quality work in fast-paced setting
• Proficient in Artios and Illustrator as well as Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
