The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement. A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including the athletes, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the International Sports Federations (IFs), Organising Committees for the Olympic Games, the Worldwide Olympic Partners and Media Rights-Holders. It also works with public and private authorities, including the United Nations and other international organisations.

This position sits within the Legal Affairs function, and its core mission is to assist the IP Division on topics related to enforcement and brand protection matters.  

Key responsibilities

Acting in close cooperation with other members of the IP Division or Legal Function, other IOC business units, Organising Committees and other members of the Olympic Movement, the Trainee assists on various IP related matters.

More specifically:

  • Support online and offline brand protection activities, ambush marketing and anti-piracy.
  • Support the coordination of Rights Protection Programmes with the different Organising Committees.
  • Ensure the tracking of IP infringement matters and support dispute resolution proceedings
  • Draft and review various types of IP related contracts and other types of legal instruments.
  • Support the implementation of IP collaboration initiatives with different stakeholders.

The trainee selected for this role will have an opportunity to collaborate with other than IP Rights protection related matters, such as assisting in the negotiation, drafting, reviewing, and organizing legal documents and contracts for the broader Intellectual Property Division.

Education; language and IT competences

  • Law degree, preferably in IP.
  • Relevant postgraduate studies will be an advantage.
  • Experience on IP enforcement, brand protection and/or other IP domains will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English and French. Command of other languages will be an advantage.
  • Outstanding drafting skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Technical, organisational and personal competences

  • Outstanding organisation and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to collaborate on legal topics out of the IP Rights Protection domain.
  • Business-oriented approach and ability to interact with professionals of different backgrounds and cultures and to develop strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to adapt to new situation and prioritise as well as to think ahead and anticipate problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure in highly efficient manner and meet deadlines.
