We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic individual (the role could be very well-suited to an MBA or PhD student) with a research background to join our Illicit Gambling Markets Research team, in this Fixed-Term Contract. The position will play a vital role in supporting our Corporate Affairs, Anti Financial Crime and Communications teams. Reporting to the Public Affairs Manager, this role will involve contributing to raising the concerns of the illicit gambling market with governments and regulators. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive individual to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and evolving sector.
Objective
To conduct a focused research project into the structure, drivers, scale, and regulatory blind spots of unlicensed gambling markets, with an emphasis on illicit finance, cross-border operations, and links to organised crime groups.
Key responsibilities
- Mapping the global footprint of unlicensed and illegal gambling (online and offline)
- Uncovering the connection(s) between illicit gambling and organised crime groups, trafficking, or corruption
- Identifying common themes, trends and findings in the existing research.
- Highlighting gaps in the existing research on the gambling Shadow Market.
- Coordinating internal feedback across a range of teams.
- Writing regular internal updates on the Shadow market to ensure senior stakeholders are kept up to speed with events
Specialist skills and experience
- Understanding of public affairs, policy, or regulatory environments, with an interest in the betting and gaming industry.
- Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to draft concise briefings and communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A team player with a proactive and collaborative approach to work.
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the UK and/or European legislative and regulatory landscape is an advantage.
- Experience with open-source intelligence (OSINT) or policy analysis a plus
Qualifications
- Degree in Politics, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field (or equivalent) / MBA desired
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and research skills (qualitative + quantitative)
- Project Management experience desirable
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
- Stakeholder engagement
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Attention to detail
- Organisational skills
