FIFA World Cup 26 Skills Framework

The Host City Volunteer Operations role supports the full delivery of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Volunteer Program across one of the 16 Host Cities. Volunteers serve as the “face” of the tournament, and this position ensures the program is implemented professionally, consistently, and in alignment with FIFA’s global standards. The main responsibilities include:

  • Support Host City-level planning and operations for the full volunteer journey, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, match-day support, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Assist with the operational readiness of the Host City Volunteer Center, ensuring all spaces, equipment, processes, and technology are functional, prepared, and aligned with FIFA standards.
  • Maintain a consistent presence at the Volunteer Center, managing welcome-desk operations, volunteer flow, wayfinding, candidate guidance, meeting pods, and check-in processes.
  • Provide strong customer service to volunteers, resolving inquiries, assisting with navigation, and ensuring a professional and friendly environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the Host City Volunteer Manager, Host City Manager, and centralized FIFA Volunteer Team to implement local and national Volunteer Program strategies.
  • Maintain the Volunteer Platform system, including availability, preference updates, assigned roles, communication, and scheduling.
  • Coordinate logistics, daily setup, break-area upkeep, refreshments, and overall facility tidiness to ensure a well-managed center environment.
  • Track, escalate, and resolve facility, process, equipment, and operational issues including IT, security, and building services.
  • Build relationships with local stakeholders, Host City leads, community partners, and FIFA functional areas to support recruitment, training, and tournament-time operations.
  • Support the delivery of training sessions, ensuring materials, rooms, schedules, and volunteer resources are properly organized.
  • Contribute to data collection, performance tracking, attendance monitoring, and analysis to identify trends and improve volunteer engagement and operational processes.
  • Assist with volunteer-experience initiatives, including appreciation events, recognition efforts, and communication campaigns.
  • Provide ongoing updates to the Volunteer Contact Centre by compiling and sharing all localized program information and FAQs required to support volunteers.
  • Support tournament-time volunteer management, including operational resourcing, daily staffing needs, welfare management, last-minute changes, and on-site troubleshooting.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, Hospitality, Human Resources, Communications, Community Engagement, or a related field preferred. 
  • Equivalent experience supporting large-scale events, community programs, operations, or volunteer management will be considered. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational capability, and a service mindset are essential.


Work Experience

  • Experience working with volunteers, community programs, large-scale events, sports tournaments, nonprofit or civic engagement programs, customer service roles, or operational environments. 
  • Experience in recruitment, training coordination, event delivery, venue operations, or stakeholder support is highly valuable. 
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred for manager-level responsibilities.


Language

  • Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus


Technology

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
