The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

Head of Doping Control:
The Head of Doping Control (DOP) will be the lead of the Doping Control Functional Area (FA), which falls within LA28’s Sport and Games Delivery Department.
The Head of DOP is responsible for delivering a robust, efficient, secure, and comprehensive doping control program. This position will develop and manage doping control protocols and procedures, in accordance with IOC/ITA, IPC, WADA and USADA partnerships. Furthermore, the Head of DOP will build and oversee a team to ensure a seamless and secure approach for the full doping control program that includes the athlete experience, development and communication of protocols, implementation of testing operations, including sample collection at competition and non-competition venues (including Test Events).
The DOP FA works closely with external partners to ensure the successful delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Games anti-doping program and coordinates with other LA28 internal FAs to ensure clean sport for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The DOP FA will develop and deliver protocols required to support the anti-doping operations, follow the Olympic Charter and data protection regulations and work in close partnership with key internal FAs and doping control authorities.
By Games-time, the DOP FA will deliver the operational framework, including operational/space planning, operations, service provider oversight, workforce planning, and budget. The role of the Head of DOP will transition into a Games-time leadership role within the Games’ time Doping Control Coordination Center (DCCC) structure, with accountability for live operations.
The LA28 Head of DOP will report to the LA28 VP of Sport.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Design & Coordination
- Oversee the coordination of the DOP FA team and activities, including managing contracted service providers, to ensure full compliance with the World Anti Doping Code (WADC), the IOC Anti-Doping Roles and the IPC Anti-Doping Code.
- Collaborate with key international and national partners (IOC, IPC, ITA, WADA, USADA, IFs) to align operational planning and delivery.
Operational Delivery
- Facilitate the implementation of adequate doping control facilities, as per IOC/ITA/IPC requirements, testing operations, and chain of custody protocols.
- Attend planning and operational delivery meetings with all LA28 FAs to ensure seamless integration of doping control at competition and non-competition venues
- Support the recruitment and operational deployment of doping control personnel, including Doping Control Officers (DCOs), volunteers, and venue support teams, in collaboration with the ITA for the Olympic Games and the IPC for the Paralympic Games.
- Ensure robust logistics for the secure transport and analysis of samples, working with the designated WADA accredited anti-doping laboratory.
- Recognize and effectuate the important differences in anti-doping program delivery as it relates to the needs of Paralympic athletes.
Games Readiness
- Support the development and implementation of testing strategies for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and test events, in coordination with the ITA, IPC, and domestic and international partners.
- Participate in readiness exercises and test event delivery to validate operational plans and identify areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary LA28 liaison with anti-doping stakeholders and facilitate working groups and strategic planning meetings.
- Represent LA28 in external forums, meetings with International Federations, and global anti-doping conferences as needed.
Legacy & Education
- Coordinate athlete and athlete support personnel anti-doping education delivery in accordance with International Standards, and contribute to the development of a legacy anti-doping education program in partnership with national and international stakeholders.
- Ensure the anti-doping program supports LA28’s broader values of athlete health, clean competition, and ethical sport.
Background & Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in anti-doping operations, preferably in a leadership capacity within a sport organization, local organizing committee, or at a multi-sport event.
- Expertise in or knowledge of the World Anti-Doping Code, International Standards (ISTI), and anti-doping operations for major international events is desired.
- Strong understanding of the structure, governance, and culture of Olympic and Paralympic sport, including familiarity with National Anti-Doping Organizations and International Federations.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, high-stakes programs or teams—ideally in fast-paced, high-profile environments.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams with empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Exemplary problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, analyze and resolve operational challenges effectively and delegate where necessary
- Demonstrated expertise in budget management and financial oversight, ensuring effective coordination and efficient allocation of resources
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to global stakeholders, leadership, and public audiences.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and judgment; able to handle confidential information and pressure with professionalism.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Position Requirements:
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- The position is in Los Angeles with in-person attendance required. at least four days per week (Fridays hybrid working / work from home).
- Most work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.
- The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in relevant fields such as Sports Management, Business Administration, Applied Science, Public Health,
- Project management / event management.
- Certification or formal training in anti-doping from recognized institutions (e.g. WADA e-learning, USADA training, NADO programs) preferred.
Expectations:
- Experience working on major international sports events (ideally Olympic and/or Paralympic Games).
- A history of collaborating successfully with diverse international partners, such as anti-doping organizations, sport governing bodies, laboratories, and athlete communities.
- Strong personal commitment to the values of fairness, equity, and athlete protection.
- Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and diplomatically with both internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, legal advisors, and athlete representatives.
- Adept at public speaking and able to represent the organization in high-stakes or media-facing situations.
- Strong project management skills, including budget oversight, deadline tracking, and strategic planning.
- Culturally aware and globally minded; values diverse perspectives and inclusive approaches.

The annual base salary range for this position is $126,000.00 - $170,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
