Full Description
In November 2024, the Premier League announced it was establishing a new in-house media operations business launching at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League Season. Premier League Studios will be responsible for all international media content production and distribution, providing a best-in-class content service to the Premier League’s partners and millions of passionate fans around the world.
As we build our operations, we are looking for a Financial Controller to establish, develop, and lead our finance function, ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and commercial success. You will be responsible for designing and implementing the financial strategy, systems, and processes of this newly formed business, providing financial leadership and commercial guidance to drive sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Currently, international media output and distribution is outsourced to IMG (Premier League Productions). The Premier League is creating a new production business, which will be fully operational for the start of the 2026/27 season. The new operations will build on the foundations created by Premier League Productions and will have a state-of-the-art production facility at London Olympia. The move will allow close integration with the Premier League, allowing faster decision making and ability to adapt to changes in our industry.

Our hybrid-working model also allows you some variety on your place of work, offering you the chance to work from home on some days each week. Where possible, you will attend the office or site visits in line with our company policy. All staff liaise closely with their line manager to manage their time appropriately and according to their work and team requirements.
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the financial strategy, aligning with the business objectives of Premier League Studios and the wider Premier League organisation
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
- Provide advice and guidance on all relevant financial matters to the Leadership Team and assist the team to deliver their financial plans.
- Work closely with the Premier League group finance team, and provide periodic financial reports to the Premier League.
Financial Operations & Systems
- Design, implement, and manage finance systems, controls, and reporting structures from inception.
- Establish best-in-class financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee financial reporting, tax, audit, and risk management processes
- Review and where necessary improve financial reporting and management information.
Cost Management & Investment Planning
- Develop cost control measures to ensure business sustainability.
- Evaluate investment opportunities, capital expenditure, and resource allocation.
- Ensure optimal financial management of productions, licensing agreements, and content distribution models.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Build and lead a high-performing finance team as the business grows.
- Manage a team of seven ensuring that they are adequately trained and aware of current and changing requirements.
- Collaborate with Premier League Finance and external partners to ensure financial alignment and compliance.
- Present financial performance and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Chartered accountancy qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
- Experience of managing a Finance team.
- Experience of budgeting for and managing a large business P&L.
- Experience of managing Capex decisions and budgets.
- Previous experience with MS Dynamics GP and MS Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations
- Strong track record of setting up and managing finance functions, systems, and processes in a high-growth or start-up environment.
- Excellent financial planning, analysis, and commercial acumen, with a strategic mindset.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting, tax, and regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work under pressure to meet regular deadlines
- Ability to explain financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues
