Finance Manager

Reports To: Head of Finance (Sydney)

Office Location: Sydney, Australia

Role Overview

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial operations, providing accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross functionally with other departments to drive financial performance and optimise financial resource allocation across our Sydney projects.

The Finance Manager will work collaboratively, directly reporting into the Head of Finance (Sydney), whilst supporting the larger Melbourne based Finance team with accurate financial information across our projects.

Main Accountabilities

  • Financial Reporting: Ensure the accuracy of monthly financial accounts and management reports for STH Group's Sydney programmes, providing senior management with insights to drive informed decision-making.
  • Manage P&L and Balance Sheets: Guarantee the accuracy of financial records by reviewing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and P&L statements against budget and forecast, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Month-End and Year-End Reporting: Adhere to month-end and year-end close timetables, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled. Maintain proper documentation for audit and tax purposes to ensure compliance and transparency.
  • Cash Flow Management: Optimise the use of working capital by managing company cash flow, monitoring requirements, and identifying risks and opportunities to maximise liquidity.
  • Statutory Reporting and Tax: Ensure compliance by coordinating the review and submission of tax filings, including GST, payroll tax, and other statutory returns.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to accounting standards, policies, and procedures, and support audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Align budgets with organisational goals by coordinating and assisting in their development. Monitor departmental budgets, analyse discrepancies, and propose corrective actions to maintain financial health.
  • Staff Training and Development: Providing professional guidance and identifying opportunities for training and career development to enhance team performance.
  • Process Enhancement: Improve operational efficiency by identifying and proposing process and workflow enhancements to senior management.

Key Experience

  • Qualification and previous experience: CA/CPA or CIMA qualified with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Financial and management accounting expertise: Proven track record of preparing and reviewing month end accounts and the preparation of year-end financial statements.
  • Budgeting and financial planning: Strong experience with budget and forecast preparation, ability to undertake scenario analysis with a focus on commercial and technical finance recommendations to senior management.
  • Financial systems and software proficiency: Experience using SAP is desirable with strong capabilities in Microsoft excel.
  • Supervision in Finance function: Be an effective team leader and foster the professional development of dotted line junior team member.
