WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

As a Expert Material Designer in the women's sport team, you will be partnering with the product design and development teams (Nike FW Industrial Design, Color Design, Graphic Design, Digital Design and Development teams) in bringing to life the Creative Direction through Footwear Materials design and Innovation, while mentoring other designers. This role will not have direct reports, and this role reports directly to the Women's Sport Material Design Director.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for an exceptional Footwear Material Designer Expert  to combine their experience, problem solving abilities, and creativity to help create the future of Nike Footwear. The category you will be serving is the Women's Sport team; a team focused on igniting and orchestrating performance  across multiple dimensions (Basketball, Training, Tennis) spanning across new creation and product refresh. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative and will be able to grow authentic relationships with our teams and athletes, explore innovative sustainable material ideas hands on. The person would need to be a self starter that can bring people along through material concepts that evoke emotional response through narrative and story telling. 

  • MUST SUBMIT A DESIGN PORTFOLIO, PDF, or WEBSITE TO BE CONSIDERED
  • 8+ years of relevant design experience exemplifying ability to push material design, and/or relevant experience in Textile Design or Footwear Design
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, art or related field; fashion design, product design, industrial design, accessory and footwear design, or textile design; will also accept a master’s degree in fashion design, product design, accessory and footwear design, industrial design, or textile design
  • 2 years' additional experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to translate consumer knowledge/insights to narratives and product executions.
  • Ability to create concepts and explore new Materials innovations and technologies
  • Experience building inspiration/concept presentations, and mood boards for seasonal concepts and direction
  • Understanding of the Footwear Product Creation process
  • Experience working and communicating directly with manufacturing partners to ensure the accuracy of intent and Materials executions
  • Ability to create and edit files using Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Ability to express ideas and explore ideation through digital platforms – Gravity Sketch, CLO, a plus
  • Experience building 3D samples and creating mockup samples by hand, a plus
  • Ability to present new ideas or seasonal concepts to small and large groups
  • Positive personality, collaborator, good listener
  • Passion for design, culture and performance perfection
  • Highly organized and self-sufficient
  • Experience working and communicating directly with manufacturing partners to ensure the accuracy of intent and Materials executions

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

You day to day job will be partnering with leadership, working on future material and methods of make on key athlete projects, creating partnerships with cross functional teams, executing on projects, and mentoring individuals.

Your responsibilities will be co-creating design direction and dimensional strategy, exploring sustainable material innovations all the way to curating and elevating existing materials. You will be partnering across Performance  to active ideas into inline, building project narratives and palettes.Your goal will be to aim for product excellence by partnering with key stakeholders cross-functionally on the product creation process, and help bring the vision for the future of materials and nike footwear to life. From concepting, and ideating all the way to finalizing tech packs and presentations, from working with vendors and manufacturing partners - the daily responsibilities of this role are wide ranging, challenging, and rewarding.
