Full Description
This role sits within Deltatre's Live Operations function, supporting live broadcast operations for global sports and entertainment events. The team operates 24/7 and is responsible for the operational reliability of video streaming during live production windows — across event scheduling, real-time supervision, and 2nd Level technical support.
Reporting to the Head of Live Operations and partnering closely with Project Managers and Service Managers, the Event Manager leads the local team of Staff Operators (LiveOps and Supervisors) and supervises Live Production operations directly when appropriate. The role combines event management and client coordination with the management of a 24/7 operational team — a multi-disciplinary operational remit.
Responsibilities
Service delivery and operational excellence
- Work with the Head of Live Operations to implement processes and workflows for Live Operations
- Deliver operational efficiencies that minimise cost of service whilst maintaining service excellence
- Implement operative processes that ensure high-quality, efficient Live service delivery
- Define and promote processes and best practices for the operations activities within the LiveOps team
- Hold accountability for KPI measurement and service quality improvement
Team management
- Manage the LiveOps team (Supervisors, Operators, TechOps) as a competence centre for operations on acquisition, encoding and delivery, VOD ingest and playback
- Schedule weekly rotas across Supervisors, Operators, and TechOps according to client schedules
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to the team
- Organise and oversee onboarding and training of new joiners
- Define local initiatives to ensure service continuity and limit turnover
- Ensure the team understands the operational and business needs of the client, and the capabilities of Deltatre systems
- Deputise for the Head of Live Operations in their absence
Event management and coordination
- Interface with Service Managers to gather requirements and details of the relevant live streaming services
- Manage the Build-to-Run phase — end-to-end platform beta-testing on Staging environment prior to launch, reporting detailed summaries of issues
- Co-operate with Service Manager and Tech Team to validate new software releases through E2E beta-testing on Staging
- Coordinate the activities required to deliver the Live operative services for assigned client(s)
- Manage event scheduling — import/entry of events upon EPG / customer request
- Keep operative documentation up to date for all services
- Take part in recurrent client production meetings; gather information and comment on issues tracked in the daily LiveOps report
- Configure the LiveOps report as the basis for quality improvements and client conversations
Live Operations supervision
- Orchestrate the LiveOps team during Live Production; act as the main point of contact for team members
- Hold accountability for Live Service delivery
- Act as the first point of contact and escalation for the client during Live Production
- Apply operative troubleshooting when needed to ensure Live service delivery
- Perform live checks for quality control of operational output (sync, trim, etc.) during Live production
- Ensure timely escalation of technical issues to 2nd Level shared or dedicated Support
- Maintain active, supportive communication with the client during Live Production
You have led a live operations team in a 24/7 broadcast environment before. You know what good SLA discipline looks like during live production, how to keep a team focused through a difficult event, and how to read the patterns in incoming alerts that mean something needs to change upstream. You are comfortable both with the structural work of operational planning and with the hands-on, real-time work of supervising a live broadcast.
Required
- 5+ years' experience in live transmission and/or 24/7 OTT broadcast environments, including demonstrated leadership of operational teams
- Knowledge of streaming protocols and the encoders / transcoders used in live workflows
- Solid knowledge of SLA / KPI management and operational workflows
- Hands-on experience with service desk tools (JIRA, ServiceNow, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with video analytics platforms (Conviva, NPAW, or comparable) and observability tools
- Demonstrated incident management experience — triage, escalation, root cause
- Comfortable with shift-based 24/7 coverage and able to maintain protocol-driven response during live event peaks
- Clear problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
- Fluent written and spoken English
Valued
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management qualification
- Familiarity with video encoding workflows end-to-end (acquisition, encoding, delivery, VOD ingest and playback)
- Background in sports broadcasting, OTT, or rights-holder operations
- Experience working with project teams (Project Managers, Service Managers) in handover from build to run
