As we scale our apps and offerings, we are seeking a strategic leader with deep domain expertise in mobile gaming and collector behavior.

The Role

The Director of Strategy & Growth will serve as a key strategic partner to the VP of Topps Digital, helping drive vision, define growth priorities, and build frameworks that support long-term business success. This leader must understand the mechanics and motivations behind free-to-play gaming—and be ready to quickly immerse themselves in the culture and economy of trading cards.

You will balance quantitative rigor with creative intuition, helping guide our teams through the complex but exhilarating world of digital collecting—from crafting gameloops that sustain engagement, to integrating features like auctions, live breaks, and marketplace dynamics that mirror the physical hobby shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute strategy and growth initiatives across a portfolio of digital collectible apps
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop compelling F2P systems, leveraging proven mobile game mechanics tailored to a collector-centric audience
  • Rapidly build expertise in the trading card hobby—understanding the psychology of scarcity, collector motivations, marketplace behavior, and live events
  • Evaluate and prioritize features, monetization opportunities, and engagement loops that align with user value and business goals
  • Use market intelligence, competitive benchmarking, and player data to shape strategic decisions and long-term planning
  • Collaborate closely with the VP of Topps Digital and broader leadership team to ensure alignment across product, marketing, and operations
  • Advocate for the collector, bringing empathy, creativity, and structure to how we evolve our experiences

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital strategy, including:
  • 5+ years at a top-tier mobile gaming company with responsibility for live ops, game economy design, or F2P engagement strategy
  • Experience in digital collectibles, trading platforms, or fan engagement ecosystems is highly desirable
  • Exceptional understanding of free-to-play loops, monetization design, player segmentation, and long-term retention strategies
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear roadmaps
  • Passion for fandom, games, and the craft of collecting in both its digital and physical expressions
  • Background in management consulting is a plus, but not required

In Los Angeles, the salary range for this position is $173,000- $217,000, which represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation.  In NYC, the salary range for this position is $188,000- $235,000.  The listed salary ranges are specific to Los Angeles or NYC and may not be applicable to other locations.  When determining base pay, as part of a final compensation package, we consider several factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and training.

The organization has long-term, exclusive rights to design, manufacture and distribute trading cards for several sports and entertainment properties, including MLB, MLBPA, the Premier League, MLS, UFC, Formula 1 as well as Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars, among others. In January 2022, Fanatics Collectibles announced the acquisition of Topps, establishing the preeminent licensed trading card brand as the cornerstone of Fanatics’ trading cards and collectibles business, and jumpstarted its MLB and MLBPA rights to design, manufacture and distribute trading cards
