Full Description
The Director of Packaging Engineering will lead the strategic direction and management of all packaging initiatives across the company, with a strong focus on scalable packaging solutions. This role will oversee the development and implementation of packaging strategies for new and existing product lines, with a goal of optimizing for automation in the packout process. The director will balance the need for cost efficiency with the objective of delivering a premium customer experience, all while maintaining alignment with brand objectives and market demands. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering & Optimization, the director will play a key role in fostering cross-functional collaboration, while driving innovative packaging solutions that enhance both operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the packaging strategy aligned with the company's brand and product goals, while providing strategic direction and oversight for all packaging projects.
- Lead and mentor the packaging team, setting priorities, managing resources, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment, while ensuring effective execution of packaging projects from conception to production.
- Work closely with Product and Commercial teams to align packaging solutions that meet functional and aesthetic brand requirements.
- Drive the development of new and innovative packaging solutions by identifying and implementing contemporary trends, technologies, and materials to enhance packaging quality, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with packaging suppliers and manufacturers, evaluating supplier performance and ensuring adherence to packaging specifications and quality standards.
- Confirm all packaging solutions meet regulatory requirements and industry standards, while implementing best practices for quality control and risk management in packaging.
- Provide regular updates and reports on packaging performance and industry trends for consideration to cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and minimum of 8-10 years of experience in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Proven experience in developing and executing packaging strategies, with an understanding of packaging design, materials, sourcing, and functionality
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capability to assess packaging performance, identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
- Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects, while displaying strong leadership, organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in packaging design software, such as Artios and Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
