About the Company

Fanatics Collect is a technology company dedicated to revolutionizing the world of collectibles. Every single day our team of experienced product leaders, creative thinkers, and operators obsesses over how to create the ultimate collector experience - from developing the most fun and entertaining live shopping experience with Fanatics Live, to building the most trusted and dynamic collector focused marketplace with PWCC (acquired in May 2023).

We have the unique advantage of being backed by Fanatics - the world's largest sports merchandiser, with more than 900 global sports relationships, 90+ million reachable fans, and exclusive licensing deals with the MLB, NFL, and NBA among many others - but we're a small, nimble, ambitious team building products from the ground up.

If you're passionate about building world class products and share our love for sports fans and collectors, Fanatics Collect offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team creating the future of collecting.

Responsibilities and duties: “What you will do in the role day to day”

As the Director of Product Design, you will be the driving force behind our design strategy across Fanatics Live & Collect's direct-to-consumer offerings. You will provide thought leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop products that not only meet but exceed user expectations.

You will also still have a passion for design, we are looking for people that always want to roll their sleeves up and get things done.

To Be Successful, You Have Experience in the Following Areas:

  • Motivation: A deep appreciation for the role that excellently designed, user-centered product experiences can play in differentiating us from our competitors.
  • JFDI approach: This is a leadership role, but we are all designers, design is a craft so we should always be practicing that craft.
  • Cultural Leadership: Proven experience in leading design culture within an agile, lean, fast-moving environment, and the ability to foster and grow this culture within existing teams.
  • Team Building: A natural talent for developing leadership and growing a talented, distributed team. Experience in leading design within a cross-functional organization of 30-80 people, especially during periods of hyper-growth.
  • Partnerships: Extensive experience working closely with Product Managers, Developers, and Product Insights teams, with a strong passion for these collaborative partnerships.

What You'll Do:

  • Shape the Product Design Vision: Lead the creation of user experiences that are both delightful and effective, setting the standard across multiple product lifecycles and launches.
  • User-Centered Approach: Prioritize user feedback and insights, letting their needs guide your team to the best possible solutions.
  • Team Growth and Structure: Collaborate with Senior Management and Product Leadership to foster team growth and build a healthy organizational structure.
  • Best Practices and Innovation: Lead by example, guiding your team through best practices, attention to detail, and innovative thinking to achieve significant business impact.
  • Deliver Excellence: Drive the creation of top-tier experiences for collectors and sellers through our consumer products and B2B platform offerings.
  • Design System Advocacy: Champion the use of our design system, advocate for UX frameworks, and prioritize reusability at scale.
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Set high performance standards, identify and develop both leaders and contributors within the design team, and ensure their success through mentorship and coaching.
  • Autonomy and Ownership: Take full ownership of your Mission, ensuring every detail is accounted for and contributing to a holistic user experience.

We'd love to hear from you if…

We're looking for people who can go beyond just delivering UI work, and who can demonstrate product thinking, a growth mindset and initiative. We are in the game of delivering excellence and innovation to our customers.

Who you are:

  • Experienced Leader: 7+ years of experience leading design teams, including mentoring and guiding managers. Bonus points for experience in marketplaces, live commerce, or enterprise design.
  • Adaptable: Comfortable working in ambiguous spaces, with a strong preference for data-driven execution and testing.
  • Passionate Designer: A deep appreciation for design and its impact on the hobby, content, and technology industries.
  • Skilled Storyteller: Excellent communication skills, capable of fostering healthy cross-functional collaborations with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Broad Expertise: A well-rounded product design background, with a strong foundation in customer-backed and data-informed product design and development.
  • Impact-Driven: Eager to tackle big, complex challenges and make a meaningful impact.
  • Creative Leader: Seen as a true creative who is customer-obsessed, collaborative, transparent, passionate, and playful.
