TITLE OF POSITION: Accounts Officer
REPORTS TO: Finance Manager
OFFICE LOCATION: Melbourne , Australia
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Accounts Officer is tasked with supporting the Finance function within the Australian region. This role is focussed on Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable tasks and reports directly to the Finance Manager.
The Accounts Officer will be responsible for the prompt processing and reconciliation of areas encompassing bank accounts, suppliers and customer transactions. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in a similar role with emphasis being placed on being a strong communicator, organised and able to collaborate with stakeholders in the business.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Bank Reconciliations: Oversee and ensure the timely reconciliation of the company’s multi-currency bank accounts through the cash clearing process, reconciling bank statements with internal records to maintain consistency and promptly identify discrepancies.
• Accounts Receivable: Manage the entire Accounts Receivable process, including customer creation, invoice and credit note issuance, and payment allocation. Ensure timely collection from customers and follow up on overdue accounts to maintain positive cash flow.
• Credit and Debtors Control: Minimise outstanding balances by monitoring customer debt levels and managing credit control processes effectively.
• Accounts Payable: Oversee the full Accounts Payable process, including vendor creation, invoice and credit note processing, and generating weekly payment runs for management approval. Ensure payments are made in accordance with agreed terms to maximise cash flow.
• Staff Expense Claims and Credit Card Reconciliation: Manage the processing of weekly staff expense claims and monthly corporate credit card reconciliations, ensuring compliance with company expense policies and identifying discrepancies outside established guidelines.
• Month-End Close and Management Reporting: Adhere to the month-end close timetable, facilitating the timely finalisation of data for group reporting purposes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. • Statutory Reporting and Tax: Ensure compliance with statutory requirements by extracting and producing necessary data from the accounting system to accurately calculate payroll tax and GST obligations.
• Inventory Management: Maintain consistency in records and systems by supporting the accurate allocation and reconciliation of inventory between the Ticketing and Finance departments.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in providing accounting data and information needed by internal stakeholders during the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
• Process Enhancement: Identify and propose opportunities to streamline processes and workflows to the line manager, enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness.
KEY EXPERIENCE
• Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or a related field.
• Accounting skills: Ability to demonstrate a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role within a Finance team focusing on end-to-end AP/AR and Cash management.
• Financial systems and software proficiency: Previous experience using SAP is desirable with strong capability of Microsoft excel.
