Sport and Liverpool City Region are synonymous – whether it’s our three famous football clubs or our rugby league champions St Helens. As home to Open Championship golf courses at Royal Birkdale and Royal Liverpool, and the world’s leading steeplechase at Aintree. From boxing, athletics, and swimming, sport is in our DNA, and it offers the perfect place to host sports events.
In recent years, the region has successfully hosted the Vitality Netball World Cup in 2019, the World Gymnastics Championships in 2022, The Open Golf Championships at Royal Liverpool in 2023 and the World Boxing Championships in 2025. Looking forward The Open Golf Championships will return in 2026 at Royal Birkdale; in 2027 Liverpool will host a groundbreaking inclusive multisport and culture festival and the Stage 2 Finish of the Tour de France; whilst the city will be one of the eight host cities for UEFA EURO 2028 hosted by the UK and Ireland.

Sport Liverpool and its partners offer a one-stop shop for your event including in-house expertise in Project and Event Management, Venue Sourcing, Ticketing, Marketing and Branding, Accommodation, Transport and Traffic Management, Operations and Logistics, Stakeholder Engagement, Ceremonies, Fan Zones, Community Engagement, Athlete Management, Education and Physical Activity Legacy.
